“Julia,” she reminds me.

“Of course. Sorry, I’ve had some drunks tonight.” I shrug. “How do you know April?”

“Some ‘drunks,’” she laughs. “I’m not offended. April was on my television show last August; that’s how I met her.”

I realize she’s on one of those medical drama TV shows and nod at her. “I thought you looked familiar.”

“Yeah, I’ve met you before. At the Cancer charity event in LA.” She clears her throat and looks away as she says it.

My blood turns to ice, and I hate myself all over again. Maddy. Heather. Fucking up my entire life.

“I need another drink,” I announce, and stand up to walk to the bar.

I stumble as I try to take a step, and Michael rushes to my side. “Are you okay, sir?”

“Sure,” I say. “I just need another drink.”

“I don’t think you do, sir. We should consider going home.”

I look around the club and shake my head. “No, it’s good here. I need another drink.”

Michael is frowning at me, but I manage to get to the bar without stumbling again. I know bartenders aren’t meant to serve drunk people. I know I’m drunk. I get another drink anyway.

Fuck. My. Life.

THE CASE OF THE MISSING ENGAGEMENT RING

Fashion designer, Heather York, appears to have split with her longtime partner, Harrison Fletcher, of Cruise Control fame. The couple was set to wed in May during a star-studded celebrity wedding, but rumors have been swirling that Heather was having an affair with Cruise Control’s guitarist, Sebastian Fox. Meanwhile, Harrison himself was pictured in bed with another woman back in October.

Heather has been keeping busy, launching her clothing line into high-end department stores last month. When she was spotted without her engagement ring during interviews, however, it seemed to be confirmation of what people have long suspected. That the couple was going through some serious issues in their relationship and have called it off. So far, no official announcement has been made, but the evidence does seem fairly conclusive.

Harrison’s fellow band member, Gabriel Knight, did announce online that he had proposed to his girlfriend, Ariana Chamberlain. The two made tandem Instagram posts announcing the engagement that saw the hashtag #GabrielKnightWedding trending worldwide.

It seems as though one band member’s engagement has ended as another just begins.

Scrambled Brain

It’s Thursday night and I’m sitting at the kitchen table with Hayden having dinner when my phone rings in my pocket. My heart leaps into my chest when I see Heather’s name on the screen. It’s been weeks since she ended our engagement, and she hasn’t called me in that time.

“Hey, angel,” I answer without thinking.

Fuck.

I should probably stop calling her that since we’re not together anymore.

“Hi, Harrison,” she says in a wary tone. “Do you have a minute to talk?”

I can barely breathe, but I look up at Hayden and give him a tight smile before replying to her. “Sure, of course. Give me a second.”

I get up from the table and walk into my bedroom, closing the door behind me and sitting in an armchair by the window.

“Okay, yeah, I can talk now.”

“Cool. Well, we’ve missed our last couple of sessions with Brendan.” She blows out a breath of air slowly, then asks, “I was wondering if we can get an appointment and go for another session.”
