He leaned forward and pressed his mouth to mine, his free hand wrapping around the back of my neck in a firm grip that I melted into. By the time he released me, my head spun and he’d left a lasting imprint that would keep me obsessed the rest of the night.

“How about hot kisses and blue dresses?”

He raised his glass and with a wide and probably goofy grin on my face, I touched my glass to his. “I’m definitely not going to object to that.”

Two sips of champagne later, the car glided to a stop. I looked out the window to see the familiar sight of the international airport and a mid-sized private plane not far from the car. Confusion bloomed.

“What are we doing here?”

“Like I said, romantic.”

“But we can’t fly off on a vacation. Neither of us has the time.”

“That’s the beauty of a plane. We can leave town on a whim and come back in the same night if we wish. We are not confined to the city limits of Vegas in any way.” He opened his door and stepped out before reaching for my hand to assist my exit.

“You’re crazy.” Stepping back out into the night air, I took a deep breath and glanced around at the airfield. The lights, the planes moving down the runways in the distance, and the blessed absence of anyone with a recording device or a camera. I had to admit, so far I wasn’t hating this idea. As long as we weren’t going far…

“Maybe. Although I prefer creative.”

A light laugh pulsed through me. I wasn’t used to Vincent like this. Most of our time together had consisted of intense physical and emotional interactions. This reminded me of the night at his house, when the world slowed down and we got to take a minute to breathe and just enjoy. This was how I imagined life could be if I took the time to enjoy it.

“So where are we going?”

“Nowhere quite yet. We’re about an hour from takeoff, so I took the liberty of ordering dinner for us to enjoy onboard before the rest of the crew arrives.

I glanced over at him. “Really?” Again, that sounded amazing and incredibly sweet. And private so it wasn’t like he’d gone to the effort solely for the press like I’d expected of the night.

“Of course.”

He led me to the plane and at the bottom of the stairs, I hesitated. “Whose plane is this?”

“Mine.” He answered so matter of factly I almost laughed out loud. “Considering how much I’ve had to travel over the years, it has been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.”

“I bet.”

I didn’t know exactly what I expected, but the lavish, living room style interior took me by surprise. From the couch with a large screen television across from it to the four luxury dark leather recliners with tables in between them in the back, this jet had some serious style.

“Wow. You sure know how to travel in style.”

“I’m big on comfort no matter where I am. Although right now I’m wishing I would have bought the one with a bedroom in the back.”

“Somehow I doubt you need an actual bedroom to get anything done, sleep or otherwise.”

“I’m definitely not talking about sleep.”

Despite everything my face flamed hot. My expectations for the night had been low, but that didn’t mean I could remain unaffected. This man had a presence and all the right words to take my low burn and turn it into a raging inferno of need.

Since I could see one of the tables at the rear was already set for a meal, I proceeded past the couch and went for the obvious. I placed my purse in the side pocket and took a seat, sinking deeply into the softest leather I’d ever had the pleasure of touching.

“Don’t tell me. It’s imported.”

“Actually leather doesn’t have to be imported to be the best. Top-notch quality is available right here in the US.” He took the seat across from mine and as if from nowhere a waiter appeared with glasses of fresh champagne and a pitcher of ice-cold water.

“If you are trying to impress me, consider it done. This is way out of my league.”

A frown crossed his beautiful, but sometimes harsh features. “No, my pretty girl. Absolutely nothing is out of your league.”

“So says the man who apparently doesn’t have a money care in the world.” I didn’t mean to sound bitter, but I couldn’t take back the words. They weren’t meant to insult. It was just another reminder that I’d lost almost everything in the span of a few months.
