Chapter Six
Izzy
He grabbed my hand and led me from the bar. I had no idea where we were going and for the first time in my life I didn’t care. Whatever he wanted, I wanted.
The fleeting thought I might be going up to a hotel room with a dangerous man didn’t bother me—there was dangerous, and then there was evil. He didn’t have the same vibe as my father or my former fiancée.
With Houston I lacked the gut feel of a man who was capable of hurting a vulnerable woman. Although the fact I couldn’t be one hundred percent sure of anything gave the encounter an edge I couldn’t deny excited me.
A familiar thrill moved through me, reminding me that I didn’t always hate what I couldn’t see. That danger could be as thrilling as darkness.
He pulled me to the elevator and pressed up against me. I raised my eyebrows in question, but he only shrugged. The doors swished open and he shoved me into the empty elevator and followed me in.
“Been dying to do this since I found you on that fucking pier.” He grabbed my hair and tugged my head to the side and buried his face in my neck. His tongue darted out and he began alternately sucking on my skin and licking me.
“Found youuu,” I said, already breathing heavy enough the words came out exaggerated.
He lifted his head. “What?” The blue of his eyes deepened to a darker shade, giving his face an edge that made my heart beat faster.
“I found you.”
His smile broadened and my stomach fluttered from the sheer power of it. “Okay, Princess. You found me. Better?”
“Yes.” I grabbed the back of his head and pulled him down for a kiss, smashing my lips to his. With his mouth fused to mine and the heat growing exponentially between my legs, I barely heard the elevator doors open until he pulled free and with a hand to my lower back, steered me down a short corridor, through another door.
The cool breeze of night air swept over me, causing a little shiver. We were outside again, but this time on the roof of the hotel with not another soul to be found. An amazing rectangular pool ran almost the entire width of the building. The crisp, clear water was lit up, casting a mesmerizing glow over the entire space and drawing my attention.
Every ten feet or so the calm water was punctuated by a gentle spray from a fountain at the edge of the concrete. There were also dozens of lush green plants and trees surrounding the entire area, lending an even greater feel of seclusion in what normally would have been a boring, desolate concrete roof top.
If I was on a normal date, I’d probably think how romantic this was. Heck, I still kind of did. Moonlight, the rhythmic tinkling of falling water, no other people to interrupt us…
“Where is everyone?” I turned in a circle looking for anyone. “This place is too incredible to stay empty for long.”
He shrugged. “The pool closed an hour ago. We’ve got the place to ourselves.”
“So we aren’t supposed to be here?” When he didn’t answer me, a secret thrill traveled down my spine. Alone with a badass in a place I didn’t belong…
As if a forbidden tropical oasis wasn't enough already, I noticed the spectacular view in the dim, glowing light. Water as far as the eye could see with both the Puget Sound and the snow tipped Olympic Mountains looming in the distance, reminding me that the wilds of nature were there to echo the surge of reckless freedom rioting through my mind. The beauty of which nearly rendered me speechless.
“Wow.”
“I agree,” he said.
I looked up at him to find him not looking at the view at all. At least not the one of nature. His gaze had firmly locked on me and the dark color of his eyes spoke clearly of his intent.
A hot flush crawled up my neck and into my face. I couldn’t recall a single time in my life when anyone looked at me like he did. As if he saw not only the woman in front of him, but clear to my soul. I choked back a whimper as I had no defense against such intensity. Nor did I want one.
Fear however, my near constant companion, continued to rear its ugly head. Any moment now I expected him to change his mind and take me back down to the bar. Where I would be alone.
Suddenly that was far more dangerous than being with him, a man I’d just met who set off all kinds of warning bells.
I was considered ordinary. Everyone said so. I wasn’t beautiful like my mother, with her perfectly proportioned nose, lips and cheek bones that formed the perfect trio of beauty every man wanted and every woman hated because they didn’t have it. Although I did get her gorgeous thick mane of hair and big boobs, two things I was grateful for at the moment.
“Why do you look scared?” he asked, his hand gently cupping my right cheek. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
I blinked, trying to shove away the attacking nerves. I wasn’t about to say anything that might push my badass away. “I’m not scared. Maybe a little nervous. I mean it’s not often I find myself alone on a rooftop with a man who looks like he wants to eat me.”
His grin reappeared. “You’re right about that, Princess. I am going to eat you.”
