Oh boy, I was definitely in trouble. I liked that idea way too much. Especially when it led me to think about round three, four and five.

“I’m supposed to leave the day after Christmas.” I don’t know why I blurted that out. Especially when the humor in his eyes disappeared. Leave it to me to be the buzz kill.

I turned my head into his chest and hid my face. I really couldn’t do a one-night stand right.

“Stay.”

My body froze. I think my heart even stopped for a second.

“I don’t want you to go, Megan. I’ve waited a long time for my second chance with the girl that got away. I really don’t want to wait another ten years.”

I started to tell him that my life was in Charlotte, but that would be a lie. But stay here?

Again, it would be a lie if I said I hadn’t thought about it. Ever since I’d looked through the empty window of Beatrice’s Bakery, I’d done nothing but think about it.

“You could still interview for the legal assistant job with my dad. He really is looking for someone on a permanent basis.”

“I don’t need charity.” I had savings and there were several larger towns within an hour’s drive that could offer employment.

“The only charity I’m offering is for myself. If you work for my dad, then I’m guaranteed to see you every day. And maybe if I’m lucky I’ll come in sometimes and find you draped across my desk with your ass bared begging for my belt.”

I sucked in a breath. “You don’t fight fair.”

“I didn’t know we were fighting, but you’re right. When it comes to you I never will. Just like I’ll never be mad we were set up. Can you really blame me? I’ve been waiting a long time for you and I don’t want to wait any longer.”

I turned my attention to his mouth, because the intensity of his gaze is breaking my resolve to never return to Rockridge. But the sight of his teeth biting down on his lip did me in.

I realized today I had a dream I didn’t even know I had. Hell, make that two of them.

“I don’t want to work as a legal assistant anymore. I want to try something different.”

“Anything you want. We can make it happen.”

I reached up and touched my finger to the spot his teeth just vacated on his lips. I’d really enjoyed it when he bit me like that.

“I think I want to open a bakery.”

He smiled. “This town could use one. You know Beatrice retired, right?”

I nodded, still focused on his lips and how much I wanted to kiss them.

“Does that mean you’ll stay?” he asked.

I tore myself from his lips to meet his hopeful gaze. I wasn’t ready to admit it to him, but there probably wasn’t anything I would deny him. I’d managed to bury my feelings for him over the years, but that didn’t mean they were dead. If there was a chance…

“On one condition.”

His head jerked, but a slow smile spread across his face. “You planning to blackmail me now that you have me right where you want me?”

I would have laughed at the ludicrousness of that, but he chose that moment to push a thick finger inside me. I tried to say something, but found words impossible as he thrusted in and out of me.

“Tell me what you want, my little elf,” he whispered hotly at my ear.

“New Year’s Eve,” I gasped. “I want to do this again.”

“We’ll do it again now AND on New Year’s Eve.”

His movements grew faster and before I knew it I was once again hovering on the edge. I didn’t respond because I couldn’t. It was hard enough to drag air in and out of my lungs as he slid down the couch until his face hovered over my pussy.
