“I missed you every damn day for the last ten years. Please don’t make me keep missing you,” he said as my face buried deeper into his chest.
“I don’t know. I don’t know if I can do this or if I can even be your friend, Trent.”
He grabbed my chin and lifted it, his green eyes staring into mine. “Then don’t.”
My eyes had finally fully adjusted to the low light. It was still so dark that I could barely see him. He reached up, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.
He inched his face forward, so slowly I felt like I was drowning.
“Trent.” My breath hitched, dropping my eyes to the floor, unable to hold his gaze.
He placed his finger over my mouth, silencing me, his gaze dropping to my lips that burned from a single glance.
His warm hand cupped my chin, gently lifting my gaze to meet his again. Time seemed to stand still, the world around us fading into insignificance as I found myself completely intoxicated byhim. His thumb brushed over the corner of my jaw, sending a shiver coursing through me. A fire lit within me that burned deep as he stared down at me with starving eyes.
“Don’t,” he whispered, his voice barely audible as he continued brushing the curve of my jaw. His touch left a trail of goosebumps in its wake. “Don’t think, Dotty.”
The weight of his words hung heavily in the air. I wasn’t sure I could not think, especially around him. All he made me do wasthink, causing my head to spin in a million directions at once, all the time.
He leaned closer, his hot breath mingling with my own. My heart raced in my chest, and I tried to take a deepbreath. He looked at me, patiently waiting for me to either pull in or pull away—giving me the choice.
I hesitated, even though every nerve in my body screamed for release, for the sweet surrender of his touch.
“Fuck it,” he growled as he closed the distance.
And all at once, he was there. His lips were soft and hesitant, awaiting my reaction. Every brain cell ceased to exist at the taste of him. That taste that was achingly familiar yet entirely new was the final straw that made me lose control. I allowed myself to give in for once and deepened the kiss.
As our lips collided, it was so painfully real that it felt as if my entire universe hadfinallyaligned. A decade of tensionfinallyreleasing.
It seemed like everything in our entire lives played out exactly as it did to lead us to this moment in time, in this closet, with his lips on mine. His tongue met mine, and I whimpered at the full taste of him.
He pulled away, breathless, resting his forehead on mine. “Dotty.” I heard the slight hesitation in his voice.
“Don’t,” I said, echoing his words from earlier. “No thinking right now.” I let myself get lost in him again.
His taste drove me higher as his tongue teased my mouth, my lips parting on instinct. He let out a guttural groan, sending a pulse straight to my core.
He laced his hand in my hair at the nape of my neck, pulling my head down to deepen the kiss. Using his free hand to grab my ass, he picked me up so my legs wrapped around his waist. Suddenly my back was against the wall, him pushing into me further, our lips never losing contact.
I pulled away, needing a moment to catch my breath. He stared down at me and rubbed his thumb along my bottom lip.
“I spent the last ten years trying to remember the taste of your lips, but that was far better than I could’ve ever dreamed about.” His voice was low and husky.
I rested my forehead on Trent’s. “I think we should get back out there,” I said, still breathless.
“Yeah, probably,” he said before stealing one more kiss from the corner of my mouth. He set me down and turned toward the door.
He turned back around and looked at me.
“What?” I asked.
His response was one more kiss. “To hold me over,” he said, guiding me out of the closet.
What the fuck just happened?
I heard Trent apologizing to someone as he walked out of the closet. I looked over to see Jared standing there with a confused expression on his face.
“Oh, hi, Dotty. Trent.” He nodded. “Is this the restroom?” Jared asked.
