I knew how much it weighed on him that Gracie had few female role models in her life. I always made sure to stay in touch with her, even from hours away, to fill that gap as best I could, but it wouldn’t replace having a mom in her life.
“Well, good thing I’m here to do all the girly things with you, sweet girl.” Dorian took a deep breath, giving Gracie a hug.
He ran through every little detail of Gracie’s routine and the conference information, even writing down emergency contacts, as if I didn’t already know everyone’s phone numbers.
“Take a deep breath.” I grabbed his arm and squeezed. “It’ll be fine. Don’t worry about us one bit.” Dorian nodded.
After one last hug from his daughter, I finally managed to usher him out the door for his long drive.
“Drive safe, please. Text me updates.” When the words left my mouth, I realized I never texted Trent that I made it to Dorian’s and pulled out my phone to send him a quick text.
Sorry, forgot to text earlier. I’m at Dorian’s.
“I will. Love you, Dotty. Thanks again for your help,” Dorian said.
“Anytime.”
My phone dinged and I looked down to see a text from Trent.
Trent
Forget about me already?
Me
I guess you are easily forgettable.
Trent
Harsh. I guess I’ll have to try harder to be memorable.
Me
Good luck with that.
Trent
At least some things never change.
You still can be mean and sarcastic as hell.
Me
Some things indeed never change, but I have been told I do age like fine wine.
Trent
I don’t like whoever told you that, but I do agree.
Me
Lol, it was Noah, calm down. I’m being summoned by G. See you later.
Trent
Counting down the hours already, aren’t you?
