Naya nodded slowly, turning the information over in her mind. “So that’s the only place you can create a portal to my land?”
“Safely, yes.”
Her thoughts drifted back to the smaller traveling fleet. “So we took a shortcut back too?”
“A different one, but yes.”
“Why?”
Akoro’s head snapped up, eyes dark. “Because my people need me.” His voice thundered through the room, his entire body rippling with barely contained annoyance. “I cannot be traveling for a month.”
Naya drew in a slow, steady breath, eyes locked on Akoro. He had left his city to get her.
No.
She pushed the foolish thought aside, forcing down the annoying part of her that wanted to believe it. He had agreed to her proposal because it served his people. Because he needed to return to the empire she had unknowingly harmed.
He grabbed her undergarment and ripped it off. She thought quickly, knowing she had seconds before the conversation devolved into something her Omega longed for. “So why did you and Prillu tell me I was safe when I wasn’t?”
Akoro rose onto his knees, reaching beneath her tunic, the roughness of his palms grating against her bare skin. “You were supposed to be,” he said. “The domes, thennirae, all our magical tools—they kept you protected. The real danger of that shortcut is the sand itself.” His fingers dragged over her stomach, his hands framing her waist as his eyes locked onto hers. “Thennin-eellithishouldn’t have come so close.”
And yet, they had.
Her tunic slid over her shoulders, baring her body to the cool air. She instinctively moved to close in on herself, but the look in his eyes rooted her still.
“So then, why did it?” she asked quietly.
Akoro leaned forward, bracing his forearms on either side of her, his dark eyes catching hers. “Two reasons. First, the route we took bordered dangerous Sands. It’s an unpredictable and unstable environment. Second, according to our records, when an Omega is in certain states, she can attract thennin-eellithito her.”
Naya frowned. “You mean…?”
His fingers slid between her thighs, finding her wet and ready. “I suspect your orgasm, along with the unstable environment, drew them to you.”
“That’s ridiculous,” she said, breathlessly.
His fingers worked her with precision, circling and pressing in rhythmic strokes that had her panting within moments. He knew her body too well.
Akoro climbed onto the bed, pressing his mouth to her shoulder, his teeth scraping along the delicate skin. “It started chasing us as soon as you came in my mouth, tmot zia. That is strong evidence.”
The words sent a flush of mortification over her skin.
That couldn’t be right. Could it? But her mind was becoming muddled. Naya panted, lowering on the bed and writhing underneath him. When his mouth traveled down her body, claiming each inch of exposed skin, she arched into his touch.
“Why do you think I stayed away from you?” His teeth caught her nipple, tugging, sending shivers cascading down her spine. “You think I enjoyed that? You think I was happy about that?”
This must have been what he and Prillu had been talking about. A smile played her lips, her inner Omega humming in satisfaction. He hadn’t ignored her because he wanted to. He had a reason. “Where were you?” she whispered.
Akoro’s fingers flexed against her hips. “I was watching you. I will always watch you, Naraya. You are mine.” Keeping his eyes locked on hers, he dragged his tongue along the inside of her thigh and bit down on the soft flesh, deliberately avoiding the aching, seeping place she needed him most, letting the ache build.
Naya’s breath came in shaky bursts, her need clawing at her insides.
“No more questions.” His voice was low, deep, vibrating through her.
The words sliced through the haze of desire. That’s right. She needed to focus, to think. She should get answers now while she had a chance… but Akoro was between her thighs now, the thick, blunt head of his cock pushing against her entrance, hot and insistent.
Before she could say anything else, he was pushing into her, the thick length of him stretching her so wide with a delicious, brutal burn. A strangled sound tore from her throat. She’d almost forgotten how big he was, how consuming the sensation was. For a moment, she couldn’t think. Her body was being opened up, stretched to its limit.
She arched, mouth open in silent anguish at the biting, beautiful slide. By the time he was seated fully inside her, she had no breath left in her lungs. She was full, stretched, exposed.
