“I know we are borrowing my brother’s jet, but do you think it would be possible to stop in Vegas on our way back?”
My mouth ran circles around her hard nipples and kissed my way along her neck. “You want to go to a strip club?”
“We could, but I want to get married. Then the world would know you are mine as well.”
“I would move mountains for you. But are you sure? You’ve waited because you wanted your mom to be there. Maybe we can get married here, tomorrow.”
“I’ve thought about it a lot this week. The day we get married is about you and me only. I don’t want to share it with others.”
The only thing I wanted was for Sonali to be my wife. “Then consider your request granted.”
By the end of the week, she would be my wife.
***Sawyer
Only one light was on in the house when I pulled into the driveway. Before I exited the car, I pulled up the security system and checked to make sure nobody had followed me. When I was comfortable the coast was clear, I exited the car and jogged up to the front door. The old brick home looked distressed on the outside, but it had every security measure I could buy implemented. The place was also renovated inside.
I moved the small plant next to the front door and placed my hand on a black LCD screen. The door made an audible click and slid open. Once I stepped through, it closed on its own.
“Daddy.” A four-year-old blonde, pig-tailed girl rushed at me with her arms stretched wide.
“What are you doing out of bed?” I swung her through the air and brought her into a hug. My little girl was my world, and I would do anything to protect her. Nobody could ever know that my and Sonali’s blood disorder was also passed on to my daughter.
“I went down to help Mommy make hot chocolate?”
Gia stepped out from the shadows. Her purple hair was bound in a messy bun, her gray eyes were wide. “Vivian, we talked about this. I am not your mother.”
Vi’s mom died during childbirth—she was also the love of my life. I’d sworn off love, which was why I kept my sexual life to the island and Jasmin only. I hired Gia when I brought Vi home, and she’d been her nanny ever since. She was also extremely technologically advanced, which helped with all the security I put in place.
“But you said I could wish for anything, and that is what I wish for,” she pouted.
I kissed the side of her head and turned to Gia. “I’ll talk to her about it tomorrow. Let me go tuck her in, and then we have a few things to discuss.”
“Let’s go read a book.” I marched down the hall to her bedroom, and she grabbedGreen Eggs and Ham. Before I made it to page four, she was asleep. Vi looked so much like her mother it hurt.I pulled the blanket up until it rested under her chin and flipped the light off.
Gia had demanded a meeting with me a couple of days ago, and I worried this day might come. She was a perfect nanny, but the job was demanding when you always had to stay hidden.
When I walked into the kitchen, she was in front of her laptop with a cup of hot chocolate. “Sawyer…I need to take a few weeks off.”
I let out a long sigh. “You’re not quitting?”
Her button nose scrunched. “No. Why would you think that?”
“Doesn’t matter. What do you need time off for?”
She tapped her keyboard a couple more times. “My twin sister sent me a message a few days ago, and since then, I can’t get ahold of her. I need to go search.”
I shook my head. “Let me hire a team.”
“No!” she yelled.
“What is going on?”
“Jade and I are both wanted for murder. I understand if you’d want me to leave now. Just please give me a head start.”
I blinked at the woman who had been in my life for four years—the person I entrusted with my daughter. “I had backgrounds run on you.”
She waved her hand in the air. “And I intercepted the information and changed it.”
“You’re part of this family. I will help you.”
“Aren’t you going to ask who I murdered?”
“No,” I shot back. “My guess is it was self-defense. Let’s start a game plan.”
The security system buzzed in my pocket. I pulled out my phone and glanced at the screen. Four SUVs barreled down the long road to my home. We had only five minutes before they arrived. They didn’t look friendly.
“They found me,” Gia cried.
They hadn’t gotten her yet.
