"I'll reach out to my contact. A few months back, we did a drop there, and Rex told me they had some personnel changes," Zane said.
"Where?"
Zack squeezed my hand. "The place doesn't exist, so technically, nowhere. As for Ash, he had to have seen the headlines, which means he will come after you to hurt me even more."
My stomach sank as I realized I had acquired yet another person who wanted me dead.
Chapter6
Zack
Icame awake when a small arm wrapped around my waist. And, like the past few days, my dick became instantly hard. It didn’t help when Hannah snuggled closer to me in my king-size bed. Hannah sleeping in my bed was a rule I had created, but now wondered why I decided to torture myself with her next to me.
The first night she’d argued with the arrangement, and I pointed out the contract she signed. Her eyes narrowed for a moment, then agreed. I was proud of myself for winning the first argument. Except the woman outsmarted me. She came to bed in a tight white tank top, her nipples poking through the thin fabric. But her sexy-as-hell pajamas didn’t end there. Nope, she wore a pair of boy shorts that barely covered her ass.
Each morning I jogged five miles and took a long shower to deal with the constant arousal.
This morning wouldn’t be any different. I gently unwrapped her arm from my side.
And she sighed before her brown eyes opened.
Not even thinking about it, I leaned forward and kissed her forehead. “Go back to bed. I’m going to take a run over to Zane’s and get an update.”
“I want to go with you.” She sat up in bed, and the comforter slipped down her body, showing off her perky breasts. My eyes immediately cast down her body.
The early morning sun partially illuminated the bedroom. If I had to guess, it was only around six in the morning. Zane would be just getting up, but he had told me to come over for coffee in the morning to discuss options. I liked the early mornings. During my years in the office, I loved working early in the mornings and it had stuck. The last two days, Hannah rose from bed closer to nine o’clock, but it didn’t bother me.
“Why don’t you rest a little longer? Today is going to be a busy day.”
We were heading to pick up our second marriage license. I had called in a few favors since I needed them from the Virginia Clerk of the Circuit Courts in Haven Ridge. My sister helped obtain the license, and we would pick it up before we headed to the town church. The local pastor had agreed to marry us and keep everything quiet.
“You’re not going to let me talk you out of this idea, are you?”
“No. Kat mentioned she and Sophie would be over this morning. So, I’ll be back soon.”
I changed into my workout shorts and a fresh shirt. Hannah waved as I strode out of the room and jogged down the stairs to the main living area. Texan had on shorts and was ready for our run. Art sat on the couch with his laptop.
The crisp morning air hit my face as I jogged along the path between Zane’s house and mine. Zane installed a perimeter security system that protected all three homes. He was even in the design phase of building an underground bunker where the tunnels connected under our homes. I pointed out we all had panic rooms, but he ranted about needing to be more prepared.
I rounded the last tree when my feet stumbled. Kat had a gun pressed against a man’s back near her SUV. I couldn’t distinguish the person’s face, because a black hood covered his head.
“Sir, I think we should head back to your house,” Texan grabbed my arm.
I shook off his grip and jogged the last few feet of the trail. “Kat?”
Zane emerged out of the shadows and grabbed the large man’s arm. “Good morning, brother.”
“I will kill all of you,” the hooded man growled.
I was sure they had a good reason to kidnap this person. Usually, I would let my brother do his job and look the other way. Though deep inside, I knew this had something to do with Hannah, so I followed them through the garage into a separate section of Zane’s house. He had three jail cells and an interrogation room.
The man vainly attempted to twist out of Zane’s grip, but failed and ended up face-down on the interrogation floor.
Kat stood next to the silver table with her arms crossed.
“This will be easier if you cooperate,” Zane said. “Or if you decide to be an asshole, which I know you are. I’ll let my partner spend hours torturing you.”
“You will all pay for this.”
