Warmth washed over me, hearing that Wes was in return jealous of the psychologist. “You can’t be jealous of my shrink session. I met the man on a zoom call a week ago. He turned our conversation into a damn therapy session.”
“We seem to suck at this,” I sighed.
“Partially, it’s my fault.”
“No—”
“I was the one who wanted to do only one date. From the second I laid eyes on you backstage at the auction, I knew I was kidding myself. Sam said when the one person I want walks into my world, she will knock it upside down. The two weeks you were with me were hard. Every night I wanted to climb in bed with you, but you deserve better.”
“Here is the thing. I’m the only one who can decide what I deserve. No way should you have a choice in what I decide. Wes, you walked into my office, flipped your own rules on their head, and expected me to accept it a second later. I’m not used to this world, and you think I should accept that in a second also.”
Wes shifted on the bed, so my back rested against his side. “You’re dead right. I’ve fucked this up all along. Rachelle, will you give me another chance and go on another date with me?”
Nothing good in life happened without a leap of faith. I could seal my heart up and not give him a chance, but I didn’t want anyone else. “Yes, but you need to communicate with me when you need to do scenes with a woman for demonstration or work.”
Wes pressed a soft kiss to the side of my head. I leaned into him more, loving his arm around my body. “Deal, but next time I have to do a demo, you will be the one I do it on.”
My fingers trailed to the bottom of his shirt. “Should we try a demo now….”
“Jesus, woman, you were drugged.”
I wanted to feel him against my skin. “I need you.”
He winced as he tore his shirt off.
“Shit. You’re hurt. The second you get around me, I lose my damn mind and forget everything. We still haven’t talked about what happened.”
“My ex Elise and my former teammate Milton have smuggled woman out of this club for a while. Normally they are new club members. Then they sold them on the black market. Elise used the hospital as her way to look over the charts. She was the one who deleted the information out of the files. They didn’t expect you to be at the club tonight. She wanted to get payback for you getting her fired. The real target was Roxy. You saved her from getting kidnapped again.”
My brain tried wrapping itself around the story Wes laid out. He never mentioned Elise was his ex. I faintly remember her acting as if she knew him at the hospital, but I was so caught up in the fact I was detained I hadn’t paid attention. “Wow.”
He leaned forward, “yes. Milton spilled everything to the FBI agent, Scarlet. The FBI is going to take down the trafficking ring.” Wes glanced up at the wall. “Tonight. Sophie and Zane are going to stay with you while I assist.”
My hand brushed against the white bandage. “You think it’s safe for you to go?”
Wes ran a hand over his head. “I have to. I’m here on a mission for Shialia. There is a little girl who is missing her mother, and I’m pretty sure she is on that container. With the information from Milton and Senator Smith, I think I might get her back.”
He would leave then. Guilt washed over me for the fact a woman was about to be saved, but it would mean I was losing Wes. “You need to go. I’ll be fine. Nobody is left to come after me. Dad said Calvin is out of state.”
“I still want someone to watch over you. But I want to know why you look like I stole your puppy just now.”
I took a deep breath. “I want one last time with you.”
Wes's head snapped back, “last time? I thought we just discussed giving this a try.”
“But you’ll head back to Shaila when the mission is over.”
“I’m not. I might have to take her on the plane back there, but you can come with me if I do, I’m staying here long term. My place is at Blackwood Security.”
“Kiss me.”
Wes tossed his shirt to the side and tugged at the bottom of the long shirt I had on. “When I saw you walk around with Bentley. It took everything in me not to come over, grab your hand and take you to the spanking bench.”
“You could now.”
His eyes blazed as they connected with mine. “I would rather taste you.”
Wes climbed between my legs and put them over his shoulder. His soft kiss up the inside of my leg was so slow. “I need you.”
