I weaved through the crowd of half-naked people. When I reached the bar, I sat at the end. Roxy came over with a glass of wine and sat it in front of me. “I poured you another one out of Bentley’s reserve.”
“Oh, we’re not together.”
She winked at me. “I know, but you looked like you could use it.” Roxy paused for a couple of seconds. “I love my husband.”
I winced, knowing I didn’t keep my facial expressions covered earlier. “I’m sorry.”
“It took me a long time to ask for help. Liam came home from a mission to find me in the closet. I was barely able to walk because I hadn’t eaten or drank anything in days. One of the reasons I work here on weekends isn’t for money. Liam doesn’t want me to go too many days alone. I’m bad about not leaving our home when he’s gone.”
“Really, you don’t have to explain. I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions.”
She grabbed a napkin from the holder and wrote down a phone number. “Here. I know this world can be a lot. There is a group of us here that get together. Call me, and we can meet up. Even if this isn’t for you, but I saw the way you looked at the tall sexy man over there.”
I knew she nodded right at Wes without looking. “He’s with someone.”
“But his eyes were on you earlier. Still are, that man has it bad.”
I didn’t want to even think about it because he was with another woman. “Does he come here often?”
“Nope, the first time I saw him. The woman next to him is a regular. I’ve not talked to her much. Come to think of it, I’ve never seen her come as a sub before. A few people said she’s a switch, but she is normally a Domme, and her sub isn’t here tonight. That’s strange.”
My gut twisted, wondering if I had come to the wrong conclusion again.
Roxy filled my glass one more time. “You’re at the three drink limit. If you want to play, you can’t have anymore.” She reached across the bar and pulled me into a hug. “I’m off. Find me before you leave. Also, I’m serious about calling me.”
She gave the second bartender a high-five as she walked out. The wine was perfect, and I took another sip, not sure what to do next. Roxy’s words about Wes’s partner made me wonder.
“Fresh meat. What is your name, pretty lady?” The nasally voice pulled me from my drink. A short, stout man stood next to me. So close I could smell whiskey wafting off him. He even swayed a little. “How about we get a private room?”
“I’m good.”
“You seem to not understand how this works. In this club, you do as I say.” He looked over at me. “Do it.”
Before I could register what was happening, I felt a prick in my neck. I opened my mouth to scream, but a ball was inserted before I could yell.
“Not so sassy now, huh?”
“We need to move her before someone asks questions.”
My heart froze at the sound of that voice. The same voice declared that Calvin had a restraining order against me. The same voice that made a scene. I attempted to scream, but it came out muffled. The bartender looked down at us, and I tried to plead with my eyes, but he only looked at the man I didn’t know.
The room blurred for a second. “We need to go now.” The voice beside me said, but my head felt too heavy to turn in her direction. The man lifted me into his arms and my head lowered to the side. My brain told me to scream, but I couldn’t do anything. Even my arms felt numb as he walked toward a door in the back of the bar. A door that said employee-only nobody would know I disappeared until it was too late.
I told you I would get you.
I barely felt the tear running down my cheek as the door slammed behind us.
CHAPTER12
Wes
My jaw hurt from clenching.I wasn’t sure how much longer I could sit in the back conference room listening to this man talk. Senator Smith was in shock about how two women he played with went missing.
He did lay on a good act sounding so concerned about both women. FBI agent Scarlet’s hands were balled into a fist. “Come on, Senator, we’ve known each other long enough for you to drop the bullshit. I’m here talking to you because of our relationship.”
The older man’s face turned bright red. “I can have you off the FBI in seconds.”
She leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms. “I’ve gone against people with a lot more power than you. Don’t forget many of your top donors belong to this club. I’m sure they wouldn’t like what I’ve uncovered. For instance, let’s talk about Marylynn.”
