Mia tapped her long red nails on the table. “Why a week? We can go tonight.”

Paxton shook his head. “I need both of you to meet with our psychologist and get a physical at the Alexander General Hospital. I know you won’t play, but I’m not taking a chance.”

“He only takes chances with his crappy network security,” Brock huffed.

“My club is full of politicians and doctors. Yes, we have a couple members in the military, but nothing like you guys have. None of them are hackers. I thought I hired a good company.” Paxton sighed. “Doesn’t matter now since I just paid you a hefty price to fix my problem.”

“So the senator frequents your club,” I cut in not wanting my boss to go into the importance of cyber security.Over the past couple months, I had heard the lecture enough to recite what he would say by heart.

“Yeah.” He scrubbed a hand over his face and let out a sigh. “He joined with a couple of other guys. Everything passed on the background check we did, but according to Brock, we aren’t doing good enough checks. I would like to remind everyone we are doctors and Dom’s. We wanted a safe place to play and keep it close.” He tapped his finger on the table.

I dug through my notes and found the three women who went missing. None of them had any type of medical records in the same hospital. “Do you recognize these three women? And would they have had physicals at the hospital?”

“Yes.”

Brock ran his hand over his face. “I can’t figure out how the records are being destroyed. It shouldn’t be that easy.”

“I have the reports. Each woman submitted them to me, and before they were allowed to play. Men go through the same process.” Dr. Paxton stated.

“We need to see those,” Brock countered. “Someone worked hard to keep the medical records hidden along with the link between the missing women. Which only makes me think Senator Smith is behind this or one of your brothers.”

Paxton held up his hands, “I can vouch for my brothers.”

My mind raced back to the journal entry. “Except one of your brother Kaeden was the last Dom the victim played with.”

“Bentley and she played a few times. Only problem is he was out of town when the last victim was attacked.”

“Like the others, she came to the club alone and didn’t talk to many people. Bentley said she refused to discuss her past. She was also new to the club. The other two had only come once before also, which led us to chalk it up as it wasn’t something they wanted. They all met with our psychologist, but he said nothing showed signs of stress.”

I stood and glanced around the table. “I think it’s time I head to the hospital and have a talk with the administration to see what they have to say about the missing records.” ‘

Brock flat-out laughed. “Yeah. So when the administration doesn’t give you what you want, are you going to tie her to her desk? Wait—I forgot you were still going by your onetime promise to yourself. I can send Mia or Rex to go talk to her.”

I ran my hand over my face and let out a sigh. “You know this is work, boss. Not a place to discuss my personal life and especially not in front of a client,” I grumbled back, picking up the folder from the desk and grabbing my phone. “I can talk to her and get the information we need.”

“My younger brother has that one date rule too. Why? It doesn’t make sense to not fall head over heels in love.”

“Until the person rips your heart out,” I shot back.

The doctor shrugged. “I’m not saying it’s easy, but to walk around dodging what might happen is a lot worse than just trying.”He turned his eyes on Mia. “Like you I wouldn’t mind a few dates to see where it would go.”

Mia huffed. “Not happening.”

“I would disagree Mia,” Brock chimed in. “You’re going as Paxton’s date next Saturday.”

“Boss!”

Brock held up his hand and didn’t let her finish. “Or I could send you in with Detective Higgins. Your choice.”

“I’m so calling Patty.” Mia’s eyes narrowed. “You don’t play fair.”

“That’s why I’m the boss. And don’t even think about having Patty change any of my shit. Or I’ll put you on all the shit missions for a year.”

“I’m out of here.” I turned to leave not wanting to listen to Mia and Brock bicker.

Brock yelled for me to call Patty as I walked out the door. I had one thing at a time to tackle, and right now, it was a luscious woman at the hospital I planned to talk to. The trip across town was quick. When I entered the main lobby, I was pleased to see they had added two additional guards, and the one from the other day was gone.

Not once in my life was I nervous to talk to anybody, but I didn’t know how this conversation would go. Our last conversation didn’t go as I planned. Rachelle barely said two words to me when I told her we caught the man who cut her breaks and she could go home. I tried to give her a ride, but she said her mom was already on the way and had her son with her. I said we could meet in a few days to discuss the case, but she said that wasn’t necessary. Part of me wondered if she didn’t want to be around me or if she had feelings for me.
