“No. You didn’t answer my question.”

“He didn’t see it coming. I took him out with one shot and got my mom to safety. I also knew taking out Leo’s oldest son wouldn’t go over very well. So after I got my mom to safety, I walked into the local FBI building. I offered to assist in taking down Leo. Nobody had ever turned on them and lived.”

“This sounds like an action movie.”

Wes downed the rest of his wine. “I look back on it, and it was a crazy experience. The lead FBI agent asked about Jacob a few times, but I think he knew it was me so never pushed that part of the case. Leo was so upset about losing his son he’d forgotten about my mother being taken. Over the next six months, I got enough information for the FBI to take him down. After the mission the lead on the case sat me down and asked what I really wanted to do with my life. A week later I enlisted in the Navy.”

“Why did you leave?”

“I was injured on a mission. My leg never healed to one hundred percent. Around the same time my mom got sick, and when she was on her death bed, she told me about my father. I wanted to learn more about him. King Beckett has many children. Patty and Jessica are the ones the world knows about. I wanted to meet my sisters, but also knew it would be strange to be shoved into their lives. Instead I took a position as Sam’s Royal guard. Not much else.”

I was fully vested in the story. “Come on. You can’t stop now, what is Patty really like.”

“My sister is one of a kind, just like her little girl. Sam is going to have his hands full when she has her little boy.”

Rachelle squealed. “She’s having a boy? The media is set she’s having another girl.”

“Yes, but I want to hear more about you. How do you like working at the hospital?”

“Still not sure how I feel about my father buying the place so I could have a job I loved again.”

“The hospital was heading for bankruptcy. I don’t think he bought it just for you.”

“You’re right. I wish he would have spoken to me first. I still don’t know if I want to work in administration, but now I feel obligated. Mom wants to travel and see the world with Dad. Suppose I don’t step up and do this. It’s not fair to them.”

“If you really didn’t want to do this, I’m sure you guys could find an outside person to take over.” Wes paused. “Do you still feel nervous?”

“No.”

“Good. Earlier, we talked about you reading Sylvia’s books, and you saw Zane’s scene unfold during our meeting. Have you experimented in the lifestyle?”

“No, and I’ve never openly discussed sex. I could use another glass of wine.”

“Oh, no more wine for you. I want your full attention only on my hands running over your silky skin and me.”

Wes’s hand brushed my hair away from my neck, and his fingers slid across my skin, leaving a trail of goosebumps. “I’m not on birth control.”

“Good to know. When was the last time you had sex?”

“I don’t think you’re supposed to ask questions like that.”

“There are no rules to sex.”

“But the books I read have lots of rules. The characters called their Dom, Sir, Master, and a few daddies. What should I call you?”

Wes groaned next to me and tugged a piece of my hair. “Hearing the word Sir roll of your lips is going to send me over the edge. We can stick to Wes. Tonight we are just going to play a little.”

“But it’s my only night with you.” I protested softly, wishing I could spend more time with the sexy man. I knew one night would probably wreck me for any other guy, but I wanted this, and I wanted him more than anything.

Wes moved his other hand and placed it against my stomach. His fingers played with the bottom of my shirt. “Yes, one night.”

For a second, it sounded like he was trying to remind himself about his own dumb rule.

“Before this goes any further, I have to tell you something.”

The touch of his fingers against my skin made it hard to think. “Anything.”

“I’m not good at sex, and I can’t orgasm during sex,” I blurted out.
