“Oh, forget him,” Nic said, giving her a little shake, “you’ll be screaming my name later.”
Ginger took a step forward when pain shot through his leg, and he dropped to one knee. He raised his gun at the same time someone pressed one to his head.
Nic smirked. “I should keep you alive so you can watch me take over this pretty little thing, but I’m not dumb like Carter.” He nodded to the person behind Ginger. “Kill him.”
Ginger squeezed his trigger to take out Nic. He might not live, but at least he would take Nic with him. The same time his gun fired, another one fired, and he excepted more pain. Instead, the man next to him fell. Nic dropped to the ground, releasing Rose. She rushed to Ginger’s side.
“You’re bleeding.” She pressed a hand to his leg.
Another damn bullet wound.
“I’ll be fine.”
The shooting had stopped. Xavier rushed over to the cell where Sarah stood. Six years ago he was sent to protect her. Nic had promised he put her in a safe location. Except it seemed his old teammate handed her over to the enemy. Sarah had tears in her eyes as Xavier pulled open the door, and she collapsed into his arms.
Brittany and her husband were in each other’s arms. Ginger didn’t know if he would ever be able to forgive her for what she had done to Rose and Casanova. He knew her husband was her everything, but he’d almost lost two people close to him.The cells were open and the people he never met hovered together.
Ginger pulled Rose into his arms and pressed his lips against hers. He could taste her salty tears, but she was alive and that was all he cared about. God he’d almost lost her, but it was over. Years of chasing the ghost and he was dead.
“You’re bleeding!” Rose held up her bloody hand.
His adrenaline was running so high he’d forgotten about the shot to his leg. She helped him over to a chair and pressed her hand to the wound.
A loud bang sounded right before the ramp lowered from the ceiling. “Cops should be there.” Lucas’s voice came through the comm. A few of the people he didn’t know took off running for the exit, but the cops stopped them.
Xavier was already talking to one of the police officers. He still had a pregnant Sarah in his arms.
Ginger started to feel lightheaded before his body slumped out of Rose’s arms to the ground. Her scream was the last thing he heard.

ROSE
“You can’t climb up there, Tyler. Your dad needs lots of rest. He lost a lot of blood,” Rose said. When he passed out, she panicked thinking she’d lost him. The doctor said it was from blood loss, but he was fine. Just wanted him to spend a couple nights in the hospital after they stitched up the bullet wound. She was happy he hadn’t needed surgery. The bullet made a clean path right through his thigh. The doc said it would take a few months for him to completely recover though.
“Have you talked to your sister?” Ginger asked as he helped their son into his bed, completely ignoring what she’d just said.
Brittany had cornered her in the hall outside of Ginger’s room. Her sister had given her a son, but she had risked Rose and Ginger’s life to save her husband. Rose wasn’t sure if she would ever forgive her sister. She knew she would do anything for Ginger but to put someone else in danger? She didn’t even try to understand.
“A little.”
Ginger squeezed her hand. “I know you’re mad because she put our lives in the line of fire, but she gave Grim back her sister, plus we took down Carter. We never have to worry about him again.”
Except Rose had heard Xavier on the cellphone in the hallway. Something about a bigger fish.
Tyler rested his head against Ginger’s chest. “Daddy, why do you get shot at so much?”
“It was part of my old job,” Ginger said. “But now I work for your mom, so no more gunfights.”
Grim stepped into the room. Her eyes were red, and she had no makeup on.
Rose rushed to her side and wrapped her in a hug. The woman should hate her because she couldn’t help Casanova, but Grim hugged her tighter, and tears dripped to Rose’s shoulder.
“How is he?” Rose asked.
“Still in surgery.” Grim took a deep breath. “The damn man told me he loved me before he…”
“Anyone could see that,” Rose said. “Why don’t we go get a cup of coffee and see if we can get an update?”
