“We aren’t some fairy tale heroes. We are the real thing. We were cleaning up the streets of the worthless people. You were supposed to enjoy the jobs we gave you. For years, we planned out how to bring you in. The spiders were my idea,” Aden said with excitement.
Ginger’s eyes flickered back to Rose’s hand. She had the top of the spider box open.
Everything happened so fast. Evan took a step back. She pulled her arms forward and flung the box, so the spider landed right on Evan.
Evan screamed, dropped his gun, and batted at the creature, but it attacked his hand. He shook his hand, and the spider flew to the floor. Rose lurched for the gun and rolled to the side. Ginger didn’t know if he should watch the two men or the spider.
Evan dropped to his knees.
Aden rushed across the room and stomped on the spider, killing it before he knelt next to his brother. Evan gasped for breath as he slipped to the ground.
Ginger hadn’t realized they were so close to the house until the helicopter hit the gravel driveway twenty yards from the front door. He jumped out of the helicopter and sprinted toward the house. His gun was in his hand as he weaved through the living room and down the hall.
He slipped into the bug room.
Aden’s back was to him as he took a step toward Rose. The gun in her hand clicked, but nothing came out.
“I’m not as easy to kill.” He reached for Rose.
Ginger didn’t want to shoot in his direction; instead, he charged Aden from behind and took him to the ground. Aden cried out in pain as Ginger shoved the man’s head against the floor.
Ginger pressed down on his neck, and Aden gasped for air.
Xavier tugged him back from killing the man. “Let me take him.”
Ginger didn’t want Aden to live after what he’d put Rose through, but he moved to the side.
Rose jumped into his arms, and he held her close. “You came.”
“I’ll always find you.” He pressed lips against hers.
“SHE’S MINE! EVAN PROMISED SHE WOULD BE MINE!” Aden screamed as Xavier pulled him out of the room.
Grim poked Evan’s lifeless face. “Damn, that spider is good. Too bad they killed him. I wouldn’t mind one as a pet.”
Ginger glanced at the dead spider Lucas held between his fingers.
“Can I keep him?” Lucas asked.
“Um, sure,” Rose replied.
Ginger pulled Rose into his arms. “I love you,” he whispered against her ear. He still hadn’t seen his son. “Where is Tyler.”
“He left with the Siena to play with Mia,” she said.
Lucas picked up the spider’s cage, dropped him in, and left.
“He knows he’s dead, right?” Rose asked.
Grim shrugged. “I gave up figuring out Lucas years ago.”
For a few hours, the house was filled with cops. When Xavier finally left, it was dark, and all Ginger wanted was to hold Rose.
“I need to take you to bed.” He wrapped his arms around her and hoisted her into his arms. He pressed his lips against hers as he carried her down the hall to the master bedroom. When they were next to the bed, he dropped her legs and stripped her shirt off over her head. Her hands drifted to his belt. He could sense she needed him as much as he did her. The incident had scared the hell out of him. He pushed her jeans down and groaned when she didn’t have any underwear on.
“Fucking hell!” He slipped his fingers through her folds.
Rose chuckled as she climbed on the bed and wiggled her ass. He couldn’t stop himself as his hand came down on her and turned her skin a lovely shade of red.
