“Close friend wasn’t the correct words. Someone I can trust is more like it.”

“What do you want me to do?” she asked.

“Keep your voting rights and a share of the company. I think someone on the board killed my father, and I’m not going to lose the only thing my father cared about.”

“I won’t agree to anything unless you sign the divorce papers.”

Gabriel reached into his bag, pulled out a stack of papers, and slid them across the table. “I had my attorney draw up new papers with what you should get in the divorce. I know this is a lot to ask of you, but I need your help.”

Lynn flipped through a few pages of the document. “I don’t want your money.”

“Five million dollars isn’t much.” Gabriel cleared his throat. “If you read farther on, in one year, you’ll sign over your portion of the company to me for free.”

“If we can fix the issue with your board member and settle things for you, would you allow Lynn to sign the company over to you sooner?” Bryson asked as he took the papers from Lynn’s hand.

“Yes.” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “My stepbrothers are fighting every aspect, but my father’s will and Lynn’s prenup are both ironclad. They can’t do anything to change it.”

Lynn clutched her hands together. “What happens if I’m killed?”

“Your shares go into holding until the board decides. If we were still married, they would go to me. Since we’re signing divorce papers, the board would decide, and before you say you could make a will, it won’t work. The bylaws are already in effect.”

“So everyone on the board knows about this,” Lynn said softly. “Wait, they think we’re married, so it wouldn’t matter.”

“You’re not the only one who’s had a few close calls.” Gabriel looked at Noah and Bryson for a few seconds. “Someone put a bomb on my plane before I came out here. Luckily the pilot did another inspection, or I would be dead. My share goes to the board as well to decide what to do with it.”

Noah sat back in his chair. “What are your plans?”

“I’m going to head back to Seattle to figure out who on my board is corrupt. I owe it to my father to figure this out. I know it wasn’t fair to you to not sign the papers.”

Lynn shook her head. “We never loved each other. You wanted to make your dad happy, and I wanted a family.”

“Do you have a security team you trust?” Noah asked as he typed away on his phone.

Gabriel shrugged. “I thought I did, but now I’m not so sure. The only person who knew about Lynn was my bodyguard. He was also the one who was supposed to check the plane but didn’t show up when I was leaving.”

“Hank, I know your men are pretty busy,” Noah said. “I have a friend getting out of the CIA with contacts around the Seattle area. I think she would be a great bodyguard.”

“Are you talking about Razor?” Hank let out a low whistle. “If you have a contact for her, go for it. I’ve wanted her on my team since I started the Brotherhood Protectors. She always told me she would retire when she got out.”

“I can’t have a woman protect me.”

Noah turned and glared at Gabriel. “Razor would slice your throat if she ever heard you say shit like that. Some of the best soldiers I worked with were women. You need help, and she can do it. I’ve been texting with her for the last half hour. She agreed to help so we can figure out who is after both of you.”

Lynn grabbed the pen off the table and signed the documents. “I signed. Noah has agreed to help you get out of this mess. Now sign the papers so I can start my life. I’m not trusting you to sign them when you leave. I want a signed copy to hold in case you don’t take them to the courthouse.”

“I know you guys didn’t need to help.” Gabriel reached over and scribbled his name across both copies. “Are you sure I’m not going to get your friend killed?”

“I wouldn’t worry about her.” Noah smiled. “Might recommend not making any more comments about her being a girl.”

Lynn was excited she was about to be divorced. Once Gabriel submitted the documents to the courthouse, their marriage would be over. She still had to deal with him until the other part of her life was cleaned up. Bryson squeezed her leg under the table. His touch alone sent goose bumps through her body.

“Why are you helping me?” Gabriel asked the men around the table.

“We’re helping Lynn.”

“Thank you.” Gabriel stood and walked around the side of the table. “I’m sorry for putting you through this. I know you didn’t have to help, but I truly appreciate what you’re doing.”

Lynn leaned in and gave Gabriel a hug. “Take care. I don’t have a phone yet. How will we stay in contact?”
