My mouth dropped at this.“What?!”I hissed and with good reason.

“Keep your voice down.Look, sleep with him, lure him into a false sense of security, tell him you have fallen madly in love with him, tell him you want his babies, whatever, just enough to make him drop his guard when we need him to.”

“Come again?” I asked in disbelief, hoping I didn’t just hear this plan of hers began with me sleeping with my younger husband. Because yes, of course physically I would have no problem with that. Not when he was the same gorgeous man, nomatter which era, we lived in. But that wasn’t the problem and she knew it, hence why she said,

“Look, I know this is a morally grey area for you but he’s still my brother, which means he is still your Draven, despite it being 1799.”

“1799?! Jesus Christ!” I hissed when hearing this.

“And there you go again. Look, we obviously came back to this time for a reason,” she argued with a fake grin on her face to hide the fact that we were taking about this stuff.

“Yeah, well please don’t say it was for me to marry my husband again.”

“You know how this goes, everything happens for a reason and all that supernatural jazz,” she replied, making me grant her a sardonic stare.

“Pip is rubbing off on you,” I said.

“After the last three decades, you both are, but my point is that whatever happens will be for the Fates to decide.”

I felt my shoulders slump at that.

“Oh goodie, we all know how much they love me,” I said dryly, tossing my hands up in defeat and making her chuckle.

“Yes, well, as debatable as that is, the one thing they clearly do love is throwing you in my brother’s path… speaking of which, buckle up, buttercup. Here he comes.”

I looked back to the end of the hall and she was right. Here he came, and with me in his sights, he looked like a man on a mission.

As for my own mission, well thanks to Sophia’s little prep talk, it seemed as if I had only one job to do…

Bed myself a King.

CAGED IN MY MORAL COMPASS

It wasn’t long after Sophia said this, that I felt myself squirming all over again.

The masterful view of my husband walking back into the room, commanding the space around him was certainly a sight to behold. However, despite those that obviously wished to speak with him, he only had eyes for me. I could practically hear his sigh of relief when finding me exactly where he had left me.

He excused himself from any conversation as he made his way swiftly through the crowd to get back to me. Sophia rose from his seat and turned slightly to look down at me over her shoulder, before offering me a whispered,

“Good luck.”Something she added to with a wink and a very Sophia-like smirk. One I would have growled at if I didn’t already know I would only be adding fuel to her amusement. As for Draven, he bowed his head to his sister after she curtsied, and she told him,

“I think I will retire for the night, for I am tired from travel.”

He accepted this without question, and I wasn’t surprised. I mean, wouldn’t it have taken weeks, maybe even months to get here from Italy? Honestly, I had no idea but then again, there wasn’t much I did know about the year 1799. For starters, I didn’t even know my husband had this castle, making me wonder what happened to it? Had he sold it years before meeting me and if not, why had he not mentioned it or ever brought me here?

“You look deep in your thoughts.” Draven’s comment pulled me from my real estate musings as he took his seat beside me once more.

“How long have you had this castle?” I blurted out, realising my mistake when he looked taken aback.

“Er… My lord,” I added quickly, making him smirk before taking my hand in his and giving it a squeeze.

“Well, as Lord of these lands, I inherited it and its title like most do,” he replied, making me scoff as I knew it was such bullshit.

But obviously he didn’t know that I knew that. Which was why he must have found my response strange, as he asked,

“Is this fact amusing to you?”
