“But what if he asks more questions? Or what if he told them how he met Ian, and it’s not what I say?” My voice rises higher and higher as I go.
“Then that’s Leo’s problem, not yours.”
She’s right. I know she’s right. But that doesn’t make it any less stressful.

We met at work. I dropped something in the hallway and he helped me pick it up.
That sounds so lame.

He can be a good dude like that.

Yeah, I bet.

Well I’m looking forward to meeting you at some point. Nice to meet you, Ian.
When the conversation is over I let out a deep breath, allowing my shoulders to relax.
“That was stressful.”
“And it’s just the beginning,” Mila adds, slapping my knee.
And she’s right. It’s only the beginning.

OWEN
The first game of the season is fast approaching, and practices have been intense.
In only a few short days we’ll be hosting the Jacksonville Cheetahs, and although it should be one of the easier games of the season, you really never know. They’ve had a great off-season, got a few more pieces together, and their rookie quarterback was the number one draft pick this year. He may need a year or two to rise to his full potential, but everyone thinks he’ll be a great franchise quarterback, us included.
We need to be ready for whatever comes at us.
I’m showering off when I start to think about my conversation with Isla from the other day. I’m not sure how to go about talking to her.
Sure, I want to respect Leo. But I’m also intrigued. I always have been, if I’m being completely honest. Isla Crosby is someone you desperately want to know, no matter the cost. She just has that allure about her. She doesn’t try. It’s not something she puts effort into.
When I saw her naked in that hallway, I knew that I was a goner.
I just think she’s cool. And funny. And I’d like to get to know her a little better, whether her brother has an issue with it or not.
Grabbing my phone from my locker, I open the fantasy app.

Hey! Are you working today?
I know she’s not. She’s not Ian. She doesn’t even work here.
