He walked into the living room and called his brother.

“Hey,” Ben answered.

“Hey. I’ve got some news,” Rowan said.

“Okay.” Ben waited for a moment. “Tell me.”

“I found her,” Rowan told him.

“Who?”

“Our mate.”

Rowan heard Ben breathing, but his brother stayed silent for a moment. Rowan knew how he felt. They never thought it would happen.

“What if she’s just yours?” Ben asked.

“I really don’t think the universe would separate us like that. We’ve known since we were young pups that we would share a mate.”

Ben growled. “Fuck. I hope you’re right. When can I meet her?”

Rowan went over everything that had happened in the last few hours. He didn’t have to hear his brother’s fury because he felt the waves of rage through the phone.

“She’s okay. Just a little banged up.”

“I want to meet her today,” Ben said.

Rowan smiled. “I figured. She’s asleep right now. I’ll get her some clothing and head over after she wakes up.”

“I’ll send Bishop and a few others to get you here safe,” Ben said.

“Have him wait in the back alley. The fewer people that see her, the better,” Rowan said.

“You got it. See you soon.”

Rowan hung up and went back to bed to stare down at the person, the only one who could truly make him and his brotherhappy and content. The fact that she could have been taken from him before he ever knew about her sickened him. What if Payne had gotten her? He knew the man would have eventually killed her. He would have never known he and his brother’s mate was so fucking close and they had lost her. They would have continued to try to find their mate, but she would have already been gone.

He’d talk to Ben later about the situation, but they needed to get rid of that sick cat before he did any more harm to their pack or even the city. Payne was poison and should be eradicated.

After showering, Rowan walked into the bedroom closet where all kinds of clothing, for women and men, were stored for the pack to use when needed. He pulled out some jeans and ashirt for himself. They had set up every apartmentall over the cityto protect each member and give them a place to recuperate or just be alone.

After he finished dressing, he pulled out a long skirt and loose shirt to match. He glanced through the shoes and grabbed some sandals for her to wear instead of the dirty tennis shoes she was wearing. Both he and his brother would make sure their mate had everything she needed or wanted.

When he returned to the bedroom, he saw her sittingin the middle of the bed. Since she was so tiny, sitting on the king-size mattress made her look even smaller.

“Hey,” he murmured softly, not wanting to startle her.

Her face jerked toward him, and he caught a flash of fear before she recognized who he was.

“Hi,” she said.

“How are you feeling?” he asked.

“I have a headache, but nothing I can’t handle.”

Rowan swore. “Hold on.” He walked out but was back with a glass of water and two pills. He sat next to her and helped her take the aspirin he should have given her at the beginning.

“What is this?” she said after she swallowed the last of the water.
