That pissed the woman off, and she jerked her closer. “You don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, so I’d advise you to shut the fuck up.”
“Do you really think my mates won’t know it was you that took me from them?”
She caught the fear in the woman’s eyes but didn’t get a response.
The elevator doors opened. Jenna looked around at the crates and boxes stored in the large room. She also frantically searched for a weapon.
They got to another door. Noelle opened it and shoved her through. “Move.”
This room was brighter than the other and contained fewer things. Noelle kept pushing her toward another door, which she knew would take them outside.
Jenna tried to keep her cool. She was relieved to see a box cutter on the table before them. Acting as if she stumbled, she snatched up the knife, holding it tightly to her side.
A set of metal steps led down to the ground. When she saw the big black car, her panic started to rise. The door opened, and Noelle shoved her in. When Jenna finally got seated, she stared into the empty, black eyes of the monster who had been harassing her. The car had two seats that faced each other, and she moved to get as far from him as possible.
“Well, well, if it isn’t the cunt I’ve been looking for,” Payne said and grinned. He looked at Noelle. “I didn’t believe you could do it, Sweets.”
Noelle smiled. “I told you I could. Now, I need to get back before they miss me.”
Payne pulled out a gun and pointed it at Noelle. “Not sofast, Dear.”
Noelle’s eyes widened. “Wait, what are you going to do?”
“I have no more use for you,” Payne told her.
“But I got the woman you wanted.”
“Yes, and I think you for that, but…” He raised the gun and shot Noelle in the middle of her forehead.
Jenna was beyond shocked, too staggered to scream or react, and couldn’t fathom what had just happened. The sight of the man so easily taking another person’s life, actually enjoying it, made her sick. The fact she hadn’t heard a shot confused her at first until she saw the silencer on the gun Payne held.
The feeling of stickiness covered her face, making her reach up. When she brought her fingers in front of her, they were red with blood and what looked like brain matter.
She looked at the man. “What? How could you be so sick?”
Payne’s eyes narrowed on her as he yelled to one of his men. “Drive. Take us to the warehouse on Tenth.”
“You got it, Boss.”
Jenna ignored Noelles body in the seat next to her and struggled to stay upright as the car turned right and then left. It couldn’t go very fast because of the other traffic, which gave her men time to find her. Oh, God, she hoped and prayed they found her before this monster could touch her.
Payne put the gun away and sneered at her. “I smell those bastards on you. It’s disgusting.”
“They are my mates,” she informed him. “They’ll stop at nothing to get me back. You fucked with the wrong shifters.”
She thought she saw some emotion in the man’s eyes instead of the cold, dead look he usually had, but it went away too fast to determine what it was.
“That cunt didn’t tell me that,” Payne growled. “Oh, well, it’s too late now.” He grinned. I’ll be done with you before theyget a chance to find you.”
Jenna considered all the different scenarios and knew she would have to act before they reached their destination.
As the minutes ticked by, her fear grew and panic started to take over. She kept telling herself to stay calm, but it was getting next to impossible.
She looked out the side of the window to see what seemed like a hundred people milling about going on about their day while she was fighting for her life.
