Rich was the kind of man that I wanted, a man that could get me to change. I would be the perfect wife for him and support him in everything. That reality came crashing down when I found out that he had a fiancé, and they were going to get married.
He never seemed happy.
She was older than him and he said they kind of fell into their relationship, and he needed someone. While his time of need was over, she didn’t get the message, so now they were going to get married.
I should have left well enough alone, but I kissed him. He surprised me when he kissed me back. Things progressed from kisses to fooling around to full blown sex. Soon as he came over, I knew to head to the back room, and we would spend time together.
It was what made my life have meaning.
That was until his fiancé found out about us. She followed him to see where he was spending all his time. Rich didn’t have to come to the house as often as he did. He didn’t have to come to the house at all.
As a woman, I can see why she was suspicious. He was supposed to climb the ladder, which added help, so that these fucks could do what they were doing easily. The amount of important government officials that came to the house to see us lined up was sickening.
These were people that were supposed to make laws to protect things like this from happening, and they had their hands directly involved in it.
Rich had no choice but to add his future wife in on the deal, and I started to see a lot more of her and a lot less of Rich. She started being nice to me and I knew there was a reason for it. No one is ever really nice, I learned that the hard way.
“Rich, come on, I don’t have all day.” The woman was becoming impatient, as I heard her footsteps.
I took a deep breath and slipped out from the closet. She was still in front of the house, so I headed down the hallway. “Oh hi,” she greeted me.
“Hi.” She was beautiful, as she stared around confused, not knowing her fate.
“Um, do you know where Rich is? He wanted to meet up, but I don’t have much time… have to head to the grocery store before getting my daughter.”
I shook my head no and looked at her with tears blurring my vision. She didn’t deserve what was about to happen to her. “Run,” I whispered.
“Excuse yo?—”
Her words were cut off when Lucia slammed the wooden chopping board on her head. “Why would you tell her that, loca?”
“I don’t want to do this, Lucia… take me back to the house. I can stay there. I won’t say anything.”
She stared at the woman, as she prepared to do gruesome things to her. “Can’t do that now, Thea… you made my fiancé fall for you.”
I escaped the hell of having my eggs taken from me, but I didn’t escape Lucia. Love had me down bad, because I continued to love Rich, and continued to have sex with him while she knew.
We broke the rules when I became pregnant.
I said a prayer, as I covered my eyes while Lucia carved this woman, knowing she wouldn’t be going to the grocery store, or picking her daughter up.

I’ve beensick for the past few days, and trying to process all the information that Quasim had told me. Elijah being Rich’s son wasn’t something that I thought we would find out. Despite me seeing her with that cocktail in her hand and witnessing her tossing it after she heard me scream for help, I still didn’t want to believe a mother would try to kill her own son.
What possessed you as a mother to set a home you knew your child was in on fire? The curtains in the room that Elijah was in were opened, she saw him in that room and still tossed a cocktail in there.
It was no wonder that Elijah didn’t think of her as his mother. She was supposed to protect him, and she had never protected him. Having to sit and listen to that little boy describe the things done to him put things in perspective.
The reason he went to bed and always wanted to know if Sim was coming back to him made perfect sense. Quasim was his safe space, and he knew the minute he was gone, he may have to go back with his mother.
I would beat Thea with every belt that God created on this earth before I allowed her to take that boy from us. As I nursed aginger tea that Gams made me, I watched as Synthia came down the hall.
“We don’t have to go out tonight if you don’t feel good.” Synthia said, as she looked over at me holding my thermos with ginger tea, my eyes closed shut.
The second that test told me that I was pregnant, I started to feel sick, and I was emptying my stomach every morning, noon, and night. Capri couldn’t relate because she didn’t struggle with morning sickness. She said she had about a week when she struggled, and then after that, she was fine.
Alaia came over with everything she used when she had morning sickness with Promise. She said it was so bad that she had started to lose weight in the beginning of her pregnancy. I prayed that this was something that stopped because I couldn’t imagine going through my entire pregnancy like this.
