“We kissed,” she said.
“Now we are getting somewhere. I need to meet him. You look so unsure and you never are.”
“I think that is why I didn’t say anything to you. I’m not sure where this could go, but it’s intense.”
“The best kind to have,” Harmony said. “Look at Theo and Daisy. Fast and intense.”
“Yeah, I thought of that.”
“And you guys have a bit of history. You’re back here together. That is just amazing to me when you think of how big New York City is and that you both ended up back here.”
“We talked about that some too. He’s a bit of a romantic and I hadn’t realized it.”
“That isn’t something you’re drawn to,” Harmony said, frowning.
“He’s not cheesy with it. Or if he is, it’s so sincere that I don’t see it.”
“I wish you could see your face right now.”
“Why?” she asked.
“The smile is a mile wide. I’ve never seen it like that before,” Harmony said.
“Maybe I’ve never felt this way before,” she admitted.
“I’m so happy for you,” Harmony said, her voice sappy.
Erica laughed. “It’s only been a few dates. I’m going to walk over and give him a plant now.”
“Walk?” Harmony asked.
“Oh,” she said. “He bought the house that was for sale down the road. I found out last week. I knew he was buying a house but didn’t know where until his grandfather said it.”
“Wait,” Harmony said. “Back up. You met his grandfather?”
And here she wanted to keep that part of the story with the page covered.
Normally she didn’t slip up like that.
“I went to the hospital with Tucker the day it happened and then last weekend. I wanted to be a support for him. I was with him when he found out what happened.”
“I know,” Harmony said. “You told me that part and then calling Dad. I think it was very sweet of you to be there for him. So that is how this all evolved? Are you worried it’s more of that in the moment than anything else?”
“Urgh! Harmony, why would you say that to me? I hadn’t thought it and now I might.”
She started to pace around the room. “Stop,” Harmony said, jumping up. “I didn’t mean to say that to you. I’m so sorry. I should keep my mouth shut.”
“It’s fine,” she said. “I’m so confused over everything.”
“Let me ask you this. Take work out of the equation because I know it’s there. Take the fact that he saw you at your worst out too.”
“That’s a lot to do,” she said.
“Just do it,” Harmony said. “And once you do, what do you feel for him?”
She smiled. “Happiness.”
“That’s your answer and you should run with it. And now he’s down the street and you can go get a piece of action whenever you want it. Don’t worry about sneaking around with me. We are on different floors. We can make a code or something so I know he’s here.”
