“I’m just messing with you,” she said. “Tell me what you are thinking.”

“I think that you might have been flirting back or wanted to. You said that you were at the end of the contract and doing your closing summary when you passed out. So here is my strong sister out to prove to the world she was better than anyone else in her field, especially men. She finds a man attractive who might have a little something going on in his mind also about you two giving it a try. How am I doing so far?”

“Not half bad,” she admitted.

“I’m good,” Harmony said, smirking. “That’s why. Moving on. Everything happens. His lips land on yours and not in the way you would have liked.”

“Nope,” she said.

“And you don’t see him again, right?”

“No,” she said. “He did reach out via email to see how I was doing. I was brief and told him I was fine.”

“And then your embarrassment was so great that you blew him off.”

“And we’ve got a winner.”

“But he finds you again and reaches out for a new contract. What I don’t understand is how he ended up in the same area as you when he was in New York City with you months ago.”

She explained Tucker’s career change briefly to her sister. “Sounds a little bit like fate, don’t you think? His assistant finds your name and he reaches out.”

“Don’t sound like Poppy,” she said.

Poppy Bloom-McGill was one of her sister-in-law’s bosses at Blossoms. Daisy worked primarily with Rose in the jewelry department, but Poppy had an office across from Daisy.

Erica had heard all about Daisy’s bosses over the past few years and how much fun her sister-in-law had at her job.

Could you imagine just wanting to go to work every day and loving it?

Who has that?

She had to admit that she did enjoy her career now more than ever before.

Was her salary stable? Nope.

Did she have work lined up when this contract ended? Not as much as she’d like.

Was she going to have to work her butt off to keep building her consulting business to what she knew it could be? Absolutely.

“I can’t help it,” Harmony said. “I’m not even trying to. But be honest, doesn’t it feel that way to you?”

She shrugged. “Not really. I think it’s more of a coincidence.”

“Come on, Erica. You were so nervous about seeing him again. You changed your shirt four times. I saw it but didn’t say a word. And you put sexy heels on with your pants rather than something more comfortable.”

She hated that her sister noticed those details. “I wanted to look nice.”

“You wanted him to remember the way things were before you did a nose dive.”

“Of course I did,” she said. “I’d like him to forget that. But he said he’s had nightmares about it and was glad to know I’m okay now.”

“Do you think he only hired you because he wanted to see that for himself?”

“I didn’t think it until you said it,” she said sternly. Urgh! Why hadn’t she thought that?

“I’m sorry,” Harmony said.

“It’s fine. He told me he needed help and that I’d be the one to do it. He said that his work with me in a roundabout way got him his promotion at his last job. He knows I can tackle what is going on and get him some kind of a solution.”
