“That’s the dress!” I said, taking it from her and looking around for someone to allow me access to the changing room.

Half an hour later, I stood at the counter with Carly by my side as they completed the order for the dress. Lucky for me, they had one close to my size in stock, which made alterations much cheaper and easier. I paid for the dress and then we made our way to the car.

“When does the dress come in again?”

“Should be here by Friday,” I sang. The feeling of removing one weight off my shoulders felt amazing.

“That’s good.”

“Yes, it will be perfect, since we do not know where the wedding is going to be held. That dress will work perfectly both at an inside and outside venue. I cannot wait for Spencer to see it!”

“Ainsley, you can’t show Spencer!”

“Why not?”

“What do you mean? It’s bad luck, like super bad luck. On second thought, you should wear it home. I’ll wait for you here. Just take the one they have inside.”

“Ugh, you aren’t helping. Let’s go.” I giggled.

We’d just hopped on the freeway and began driving as Carly cracked open the bag of chips she purchased from the store before we left. “Want any?” she questioned.

“No, I’m good, thanks,” I said, concentrating on the road in front of me. There was no way I could stuff my face with chips now that I needed to make sure I could fit into that wedding dress once the alterations were done.

“Oh, we should also work on the baby shower invites,” Carly suggested.

“I wasn’t planning on having a baby shower.” I shrugged. “Besides, it’s super early.”

“There is no way on this planet that this baby will not get a shower from her Aunt Carly. I mean, just because I don’t agree with your relationship decisions doesn’t mean that a baby needs to be punished.” She giggled. “We’ll just invite a few people from school and our parents, of course.”

“Okay.” I sighed. “Whatever you say. When did you want to have that?”

“Oh, after the wedding, which was why I wanted to know the date, silly. I already bought the cards. I just need to let people know when to RSVP by.”

“I don’t know, let’s do it in July. Pick a date.”

“All right! July 15th. It’s a Saturday,” Carly answered as she checked the calendar on her phone. “I already sent you an invitation. It should go directly into your calendar.”

“Perfect. Can’t wait.” I sighed, “When are you planning to send out the invites?” I questioned.

“Soon. I mean it will be in the middle of summer, so I’d like to give people the opportunity to go. You know, summer holidays and all.”

“Whatever, do me one little favour please.” I knew there was no way to stop her. Her mind was made up, the invites were going because she’d already decided that she was throwing me a shower.

“What is that?”

“Do not invite my father and Joan until after Spencer and I speak to them.”

“I thought you guys spoke already. You said your father was down about getting married.”

“Yes, we did. About the wedding, that is all,” I muttered.

Carly stopped eating, and out of the corner of my eye, I knew she was staring at me. “You mean you didn’t tell him everything?”

I shook my head. “No, we figured we’d drop that bomb after the wedding. Besides, it’s so early. We really shouldn’t be telling anyone.”

“Ainsley, why?” Carly cried. “Why are you being this way? It’s your father.”

“I’m being that way because it’s too early. I haven’t even had my appointment with this OB/GYN my doctor is referring me to.So please, do as I ask.” I could feel myself on the verge of tears as I looked at my best friend.
