She had never met Gears and didn’t know much about him except he had an Old Lady who was probably back at Tek's, completely unaware that her husband was dead. Fortunately that wasn’t her problem.

“Do you know what’s going on?” She nodded to his earpiece. “Val hijacked my comm so I haven’t heard any updates for the last ten minutes.”

“They’ve got Petrov pinned down in an active crossfire in front of the Clubhouse. He’s got grenades, several RPGs and automatic weapons so no one can get close. The coward is hiding behind his armored car refusing to retreat but also won't stick his head up far enough that someone can hit it. The west incursion was cleared and Hannibal and Sharp are managing to hold off the fuckers to the east.”

A tight band that had been squeezing her chest loosened.

“What about Highdive?”

‘Diana?’ Val’s voice held a tightness that she didn’t like. She held up a finger to Blue and pointed to her ear.

‘Yes, Val?’

‘Don’t worry we’re working on it, but it seems no one can get Highdive on his Comm. And no one has reported seeing him since you two separated. We do have a ping on his phone, but we can’t spare anyone to go check it out right now.’

She sprinted back towards her bike not bothering to acknowledge Blue. ‘Give me his location.’

‘It’s probably just a technology glitch. You know those happen all the time. I’m sure he’s fine and all this worry will be like dandelion fluff on the wind and we’ll laugh like a hyena on a bender.’

Diana put all of her fear and rage into her voice as she jumped on her motorcycle. ‘Val, where is he?’

Chapter19

Some days, the supply of available curse words are not enough to meet my demands.

His vision swirled between painful bright white and darkness as if the world was being lit by a powerful strobe light instead of the sun. Gravity seemed to be acting oddly since parts of his body felt so heavy they were unmovable. What the hell happened?

He’d been riding towards the eastern perimeter and had broken through the tree line when an explosion knocked him from his bike and sent him flying. He was under attack! Highdive struggled to get his brain online because his life might depend on it. Everything hurt but he didn’t think anything was broken.

After a few moments he could feel the damp grass, cool against his face. The muffled sounds of gunfire told him the action was too far away to have been what took him out. So what had? Fuck, it was hard to think with his ears ringing and the world spinning like he’d just stepped off the tilt-a-whirl.

Highdive felt more than heard someone quickly closing in on him. He forced his eyes open and rolled hoping to catch whoever it was off guard. Dirt kicked up into his face as a bullet buried itself in the dirt next to his head.

That was too close.

He lurched to his feet and charged the man who had fired. It was the fucking President of the BBs.

“Motherfucker,” Breaker growled as Highdive tried to wrestle his rifle away.

The weapon pressed between them, the idiot started firing. The only thing that accomplished was Highdive’s ears started ringing and the Ruger AR-556 ejected hot casings into Breaker’s face. When the man squealed and tried to jerk back, Highdive laughed and held on. Despite that he kept firing until the weapon clicked empty.

Highdive drove his elbow across the man’s temple and reached for his Glock. Fuck. The fall must've knocked the weapon free because his holster was empty. Now he understood why Diana had so many backups.

Hopefully she was doing better than he was. Not that he had time to worry about her with this asshole determined to take him out. Guess he was just going to have to kill the man the old fashioned way.

“Motherfucker!” Breaker spat blood and took a step back. The BB raised his assault rifle as if it still had ammunition.

“You already said that,” Highdive taunted as he readied himself to attack. “I knew you were stupid, but only knowing one curse word is pathetic even for you.”

“Fuck you and your Club! We’re going to burn this place to the ground and make your women our bitches.”

Holy shit was this man delusional.

“My woman would have you pissing blood before you ever laid a hand on her.” That was if she let him live that long. “I don’t think this is going to turn out the way you think. You’re out here alone without your boys. Pointing an empty rifle at me. Most of the sick fucks you call Brothers are already on the express train to Hell and you are about to join them.”

Highdive rushed at Breaker pivoting and kicking at the last minute when he saw the man had dropped the rifle and pulled a knife. The BB stumbled back almost tripping when the barrel of his rifle got caught between his legs. With a scream of frustration the BB lifted the sling over his head and tossed away the weapon. His eyes were wide and jittery like a rabid animal backed into a corner.

Highdive forced himself not to rush. Untrained fighters were too often more dangerous than skilled ones. They would do things that made no sense and get in a lucky shot. On the mat that could be painful. Out here it could be deadly.
