I took my phone out of my pocket and saw Logan was calling.
“Gunner, what’s up?”
“Zarek, you need to come to the gun range floor. Delara and Leo are in a cat fight over you. Bring the team.”
What the fuck?
I informed everybody that we need to head to the gun range floor without giving too many details and we all walked towards the elevators to head upstairs. We had all been in the command centre conferenceroom, going over Zane’s findings since this morning.
Why was Leora in a fucking cat fight with Booth? It didn’t make sense. When we reached the floor, Logan poked his head out from a room and waved us in.
When I entered and looked at the screen, I had the sudden urge to strangle Logan with my bare arms. But I quickly restrained myself when I saw how meticulous and nimble Leora was on the screen. There was a red label on top of Leora’s head on the screen, and a green one on top of Booth.
Logan was watching them scour the maze room to find and neutralize the other and I was in awe of Leora’s graceful walk. She looked like a panther on a hunt.
“Do that again and we’ll be one person short on the mission,” I smacked Logan’s head.
The team laughed from behind me and continued to watch Booth and Leora’s deadly dance. They were far from each other, but that was going to change once Booth crossed the second wall ahead of her.
Then I saw Leora jerk to a stop and scoot down. Was she panicking?
Then she did something I wasn’t expecting. She traced back her steps, circled around a bunch of walls, and came up behind Booth, about two walls away. I knew she didn’t have a visual of Booth, but she was pretty close to a sneak attack. Booth’s direction remained the same, her back to Leora, and I smirked.
I glanced at Sebastian to gauge his reaction, but his expression remained unreadable. Then his jaw started working up and down at a steady rhythm.
I turned my attention back to the collage of screens in front of us.
“Is she really about to sneak up on an MI6 agent?” Kabir mumbled.
“Shh!” Logan snapped.
“Fuck off, it’s just a video feed,” Kabir countered.
“I’m concentrating,” Logan whisper-shouted.
“You’re special forces and you can’t concentrate with a little sound?” Kabir whispered, mocking him.
“Shut up!” Logan grumbled.
“Boys…” I drawled, trying to conclude their childish brawl.
Booth walked a little to her left and it almost looked like she was stomping her feet and then stealthily turned right.Fuck. She had been trapping Leora. She wanted her to be behind her.
I saw Leora head towards where Booth had turned left but then she stopped. She backed up slowly and swiveled. Booth turned around and strode one wall up,towardsLeora. Another screen from a different angle, showed Booth expecting Leora to have headed left. But my smartass Leora, had anticipated the trap and had turned right, almost coming face-to-face with Booth.
Booth finally walked further, being only one wall away. They were both behind two walls that were parallel but slightly displaced. Then they both peered the corner at the same time, guns drawn. They spotted each other and fired. Neither making contact. Leora scooted down and peered again.
Booth got out, circled around to come at Leora’s back.
Turn around, Leora.
Turn around.
She didn’t move.
Turn around, dammit.
“Relax, Ghost,” Dylan muttered.
