That idea at least made her feel a little better.
“I’m fine. We just Skyped two nights ago,” Matt reminded her, running a hand over her hair. “Just tell me what you want.”
“Let’s set something big up for them,” she decided.
“Sounds good.” He leaned in and kissed her again.
And she realized that not telling the boys Matt was home yet also meanttheycould get to bed sooner as well. Maybe that was a bad mom thought. But it was a very goodwifethought.
It was another hour before they left.
Everyone wanted to talk to him. Which was nice. But his wife looked amazing and he’d been gone for seven months and she didn’t have panties on and… yeah, he couldn’t really get past that.
The only thing he wanted more than a big bowl of gumbo and a glass of bourbon was the woman who was now talking and laughing with Ashley. And for about five minutes there he’d thought she was actually flirting with another guy dressed up as Santa. She deserved a little punishment for that. He might just cut her off from any eggnog blowjobs for a few days.
But who was he kidding? He’d never do that. And he’d never stop being grateful that the most beautiful, intelligent, funny, and passionate woman he’d ever met also loved giving blowjobs.
“I’m so glad you pulled that off.”
Matt looked over at Dana Doucet-Trahan as she came up beside him at the punch bowl.
“I couldn’t have done it without you and Logan,” he said, offering her a cup. “Honestly, thank you.”
“It was fun.” Dana declined the drink and looked up at him.
Matt could see the wariness in her eyes.
“I’m really glad you’re okay with Logan.”
Matt nodded. “Chad would like him.”
She seemed surprised for a second, but then she gave him a tentative smile. “You think so?”
He did. Logan was a great guy. Funny, generous, loving and protective toward Dana and her two daughters, Grace and Chloe. “I think if it couldn’t be him, then Chad would be really happy to know that Logan is the guy taking care of you.”
Dana blew out a little breath and blinked rapidly. “Wow.”
Shit, had he made her cry? “I’m sorry. I don’t?—”
“No, don’t be sorry,” she said, giving him a wobbly smile. “I just didn’t expect that. Or for that to hit me like this.”
He had no idea what to say. Thank God, the man under discussion appeared at his wife’s side just then. Logan slid an arm around Dana and gave Matt a big grin. “So, that was perfect.”
“It took her a little bit to catch on,” Matt said. “I thought she’d bust me right away.”
“That white hair dye is amazing,” Logan said, studying Matt’s beard. “You don’t always have a beard though, right?”
Matt ran his hand over his face. “Over the past couple of months I’ve kept it. Makes it easier to blend into crowds and stay undercover when we’re in town trying to get intel or tailing targets.” He fought his smile as he watched Logan’s eyes get round.
“No shit,” Logan said. “Damn, I’d love to hear about all of that.”
“Absolutely,” Matt told him. “You guys should come over for dinner soon.”
“Yeah.” Logan nodded quickly. “Definitely.” He glanced at Dana. “That’d be great, right?” Then he frowned. “Are youcrying?”
Dana squeezed him and gave him a smile, wiping a finger under one eye. “I’m fine. Just go on and fan-boy all over Matt.”
Matt chuckled as Logan didn’t look sheepish for even a second.
