Gavin’s phone pinged a moment later. He handed it to Sadie and said, “We’re going to head to my house.”
They said goodbye to everyone as Sadie put the call through and waited for someone to pick up.
“Alpha’s house,” a male voice said on the third ring.
“I’m looking for Alli, the fallen angel.”
“Yeah, hold on. Alli!”
It was a long moment before Alli answered, and Sadie explained what had happened.
“If you give me his address, I can run your clothes and phone to you,” Alli said. “Once the pack is back from hunting, since I said I’d stick around.”
“That would be great, thanks.”
“Hey, you found your truemate. I’m happy to help. And I knew that you coming to Ohio was a great idea. I just didn’t know how right I’d be!”
Sadie ended the call and put the phone in the cup holder of Gavin’s pick up as they drove to his house.
“Sounds like she’s a good friend to you,” he said.
“She is. I don’t know where I would have gone if it weren’t for her.”
“You’re not alone anymore,” he said. “You’ve got me and my family. They’ll love you.”
“I can’t wait to meet them.”
“Later,” he said with a soft growl.
Her stomach flipped again and her toes curled.
“I’m so glad I met you, Gavin.”
“Me too, Sadie.”
Chapter
Eight
Gavin walked his mate into the house and shut the door behind them.
“How long will the pack be out, do you think?” she asked as she looked around the family room. He had a comfortable couch and matching chair, a state of the art sound system, and a flat screen hung over an electric fireplace.
He’d shared the house with his sister at one time, so he couldn’t take any credit for how the place was decorated, but he sure as hell hoped that Sadie liked it.
“I don’t know. It will be a few hours, at least, if they’re anything like the pride. I assume they’d be pretty similar to your pack.”
“I never got to hunt with my pack. My mom and I would go out on our own and stay close to the house.”
“Shit, that’s awful.”
She turned slowly to face him. “It was, which is why I kind of feel like I have no idea how normal shifter groups behave. Like would a pack normally run and hunt longer than their shifts or do they only go out for a few hours and come right back?” She shrugged and chewed on her bottom lip.
“I’m sure it varies. It does with the pride. Sometimes I run until dawn just because I feel like it.” He paused, then asked, “Are you wondering when Alli will show up?”
“Yeah.”
“Hard to say,” he said. “Probably a few more hours. Can I get you anything?”
