He shuddered, and his demon was back to being a pushy asshole.Go back to him, now. He’s not safe in here.

Stop. We need to find the doctor, get him to do his assessment, and give George something to reverse the drugs so he can shift and heal. Then the doctor can check if he’s better and only when that happens will we ask to take him home.

Can you hear yourself?

I haven’t lost my hearing,Scott snapped back impatiently, feeling out of sorts at the lack of control he felt. It was a position he hated to be in. It was just the lack of care that was pissing him off. Shifters needed someone to speak up for them.

Just go back, I’m worried for our blissful one. One of us has to be.

The snide comment made Scott snarl. The person heading towards them gave him an alarmed look and changed direction. Scott took a deep breath and swung around, heading back to where George was.I hope you’re happy. We have no answers to give our bear. Let’s see how he feels about that.

He'll just be happy to see us, he won’t care.

Back outside the cubicle, Scott took a moment to compose himself. He straightened his tie and tugged on the cuffs of his suit jacket, then smoothed over his hair. He rolled his shoulders back and put on his best smile as he stepped once more behind the curtain. Blinking, he stared dazedly at the empty trolley.

Blood smeared the pillow, and the scent of bear, their bear, said he was in the right place.

Someone must have taken him for a head scan.

Are you sure? Maybe someone kidnapped him.

Back to shuddering at how worried his demon sounded. What did I say about being ridiculous? Clearly, you are acting like the bear with your conspiracy theories.

A demon crashed into his car!

Fuck!

He spun around so fast he could have left a scorch mark on the tiled floor and marched back out, his ears buzzing with how hard his heart was beating as he scented the air, looking for the direction the bear had gone in. The whole time, his fists clenched as if that would stop his demon from emerging.

He'd barely made it to the door that said ‘Exit’ before his demon managed to rip control from him. He emerged with a roar, tearing the door from its hinges, throwing it away like a twig as he charged after the scent of their bear.

Pale blue, his demon side was prettier than most, and part of the reason he had issues with his family. He looked nothing like them, and others had often ridiculed him because he was paler than most other blue demons.

Those in the stairwell gasped as he raced to find George and rescue him from whatever idiot had taken him. His beautiful suit was torn and flapping about his body, but Scott had no time to fret about that when they reached the street and found George’s scent stopped at the curbside.

Head thrown back, blond hair cascading over his pale blue shoulders, his demon roared its fury for the world to hear.

We’ll get arrested if you don’t stop that. I also can’t think, and we need one part of us to be sensible.

He’s gone. Someone has our bear!

We won’t be able to find him in a police cell, will we?Scott questioned, trying to quell his own anxiety.Let’s go back to the office and see what Christa knows about George. We can also reach out to Silas and Dakata. They’ll help us.

The roaring stopped, and his demon stomped back to the car, everyone giving them a wide berth. At the car, Scott heard sirens in the distance. He forced his demon side into the car and slammed the door. He took a moment and used considerable effort to get his demon to recede.

The driver gave him a comical, wide-eyed stare in the rearview mirror. Not that Scott could see the funny side of anything right then. No one had seen his demon side in years. “Take us back to the office, but first, we need to go back via my home to grab a suit.” He glanced down at what remained of his Italian handmade clothes and groaned.

You can replace a suit, but we can’t replace our blissful one!

His demon was right. It was, however, a damn sight easier to think about his suit than failing his blissful one when the ache in his chest was making it hard to breathe.Had someone kidnapped their blissful one? Taken him to…

A violent shudder rocked him in the leather seat. “Hurry,” he barked at the driver, “and keep an eye out for demons in cars.” He’d need to talk to Merihem, too, he had to know something… surely?

Chapter Four

George

“I’m fairly sure that tree didn’t do anything to you. Is there a reason why you’re banging your head into it like you’re trying to knock it down?”
