Chapter Fifteen

Petal parked her car once again inthe Satan’s Death Riders MC parking lot, andclimbed out. Myth was out near his bike, smoking a cigarette. It alwayssurprised her to see him smoking. It was not something he did on a regularbasis.

“Back to practice?” Myth asked.

She walked over to him. “Yeah, I will stop as soonas I’m able to take out all targets on a regular basis.”

“You seem pretty keen to learn.”

“I think I’ve got to, don’t you?” she asked.

He shrugged. “There is practicing, and then thereis a certain someone you want to see, is there not?”

She glared at him. “Stop it. There is nothinggoing on between Dirty and me.”

“I didn’t say there was, but you have to wonder,do you want something to be going on between the two of you?” he asked.

Petal frowned. “I’ve not seen you at the diner inawhile? Is everything okay?”

“Kim’s been busy, and I’ve been working withFritz. Tito has been with Kim for a bit.” Myth shrugged.

“You’re not angry at me for hiring Tanya again, are you?”

“I’m not angry at anything. I have no reason tobe.” He winked at her. “I’m worried about Dirty.”

“Why?”

“Don’t be dumb, Petal. You and I both know you’renot. Dirty is not over you. He is not just doing this out of the kindness ofhis heart, and regardless of your past, he’s still club. I still have his back.Don’t play with him.”

“I wouldn’t do that,” Petal said.

“Then tell him to stop coming and helping you, orunderstand that he wants to be with you.”

Petal glanced down at her hands.

“I get it,” Myth said. “I know he hurt you and youhate his guts … is there nothing he can do to help you forgive him?”

“Hey, Petal, I saw you pull up,” Dirty said, shouting from near the clubhouse entrance. “Come on, it’s already set up.”

Petal glanced behind her and then turned to lookat Myth, who merely shrugged. She didn’t want him to think she was a bitch.

There was no way for her to answer his question. She didn’t know what to say to him. Should she admit to Myth that she likedbeing with Dirty? That even as she hated him for what he had done, she missedhim? Should she tell him she was torn between kissing him good night and askingif he wanted to come in? That when he was close, she remembered how good it wasbetween them, and part of the reason she struggled to shoot was because she wasthinking about the two of them together.

Following behind Dirty, she glanced back towardMyth and knew he was right. She wasn’t trying to lure Dirty into a false senseof security. She just wanted to be with him.

Arriving at the gun range, Dirty picked up the gunshe’d been practicing with, and she had a feeling the one she was going to begiven once her training was done. She still felt she had a long way to gobefore she got the chance to have a gun.

Dirty loaded the gun, then took aim and fired oneshot. He always took out the target that seemed the furthest away, and then heheld the gun out to her. He looked so confident, so comfortable.

She took the gun from him and smiled. “Thanks,”she said.

“Are you ready?” he asked.

“Yeah, I’m ready.”

For several minutes, she took aim and shot. Thefirst bullet didn’t hit. The second did, and she took out a target. As did thethird and fourth, and the bottles exploded as she hit them.

Dirty clapped his hands. “You’re getting the hangof this. No shooting now.” He moved toward the container of empty beer bottlesand placed them back onto their target. He came back toward her, and he wasclose but not touching.
