Sophia immediately yielded, her body language softening as she tilted her head back to look up at him. “Okay.”
Nova's breath caught slightly at their interaction, and I felt her pulse quicken.Interesting.
My sweet little kitten liked watching the power dynamic between the Prez and his old lady.
I'd file that away for later.
“I've got prospects posted at every entrance,” Banner informed me, his arms still wrapped around Sophia. “Dragon's reviewing footage from nearby buildings. Ghost and Rae are setting up the apartment next door for Nova until we figure this shit out.”
I nodded.
The apartments in the clubhouse were reserved for members and their old ladies.
Putting Nova there was a clear statement about her status—she was under club protection now.
“Thank you,” Nova said graciously.
Banner's expression softened slightly as he looked at her. “You're family now, little girl. We protect our own.”
Sophia stepped forward, breaking free of Banner's hold just long enough to squeeze Nova's hand. “Try to get some sleep, sweetie. I'll bring you fresh clothes in the morning.”
“Come,” Banner commanded gently, his hand finding its place on Sophia's lower back. “Bed, Mouse.”
Nova watched them go, a wistful expression crossing her face. “They're so good together.”
“They are,” I agreed, nuzzling her hair. “Banner would burn the world down for her.”
She shifted in my lap, turning to look at me with those big blue eyes. “Is that what you want?”
My gaze drifted to Haze before returning to her face. “We both do, Kitten.”
Her eyes widened as my meaning sank in, a pretty blush staining her cheeks. Before she could respond, Haze stirred slightly, a low groan escaping his lips.
“It's okay,” Nova soothed, immediately reaching for his hand. “You're safe.”
I watched as she stroked her thumb over his knuckles, her touch gentle against his battered skin. The sight of her caring for my brother made my chest tight.
Yeah, we'd definitely found our girl.
Chapter Two
Haze
Pain.
Fucking everywhere.
My head throbbed with each beat of my heart as consciousness crept back.
Images flashed behind my eyelids. The alley behind the flower shop, men in suits, something connecting with the back of my head, then nothing.
Nova.
My eyes snapped open, panic clawing at my chest.
Had to find her. Had to keep her safe.
“Easy,” a soft voice soothed. “You're okay.”
