“Anyone have anything else?” Link asked.

“I got a question.” Kane cocked his head and smiled. “The nanny? She fair game?” Jesus, I’d just gotten home and already these assholes wanted to fuck with me.

“Not on your fucking life,” I growled, planting my hand on the table and leaning in his direction. I’d kick his ass if he touched one hair on her pretty little blonde head. I had just met the woman, but after the sexy little bitch pulled a gun on me wearing nothing but a see-through nightie, if anyone was going to have her, it would be me.

Kane threw back his head and laughed. “That’s what I thought.”

“Take note, boys. Rae’s mine.” I flipped him off, making him laugh harder.

Asshole.

Chapter6

Rae

I quietly crept down the hall into the kitchen for a glass of water when the woman from earlier blocked my path.

Fucking hell.

“Hey! I’ve been looking for you,” she bit out, snapping her fingers at me. “Don't think I haven't seen how you were looking at Ghost. What's going on between you two?”

My eyes narrowed at her audacity.

Wow. She wasn’t mincing her words.

Moving around her into the kitchen, I placed my back against the sink to keep her in front of me. I wasn’t a dummy. Daisy was clearly looking for a fight.

“None of your business.” My words felt flat as I worked to maintain my calm. There wasn’t anything going on between me and my boss. Not really. I’d felt a vibe, but it was stupid to get possessive over a man I’d just met, but there I was, ready to square up and put my job at risk.

Daisy’s face twisted sourly, her eyes narrowing into slits. “Bullshit. You think you can just waltz in here and take what's mine?”

I scoffed at her arrogance.

He’d made it clear what he thought about her, and if she had any self-respect, she’d move on to someone else.

“You think that’s funny, little girl? Ghost is MINE, and if you think a country hick like you can take him from me, you got another thing coming.”

“Is that right?” I laughed. She was delusional.

“You bitch!” Her hand flew towards my face as she screeched. I sidestepped, letting her momentum carry her past me into the counter.

“Skank.” I sighed. “You don't want to do this," I warned, my southern accent strong.

I should have walked away, but her claiming Ghost as hers made that hard.

In a flash, she shoved off the counter and rounded on me. Her hand shot out again, her aim to grab a fistful of my hair.

Here we go.

Lifting my arm, I blocked her attempt, then caught her wrist and twisted it behind her back. She hissed out in pain.

“Enough,” I growled into her ear. “I don’t want to hurt you.” But I damn well would defend myself if she kept pushing.

“Let go!” she shrieked as she struggled. I tightened my hold. “Ghost will see right through you, you fake-ass whore.”

“Uh, huh. That’s great. Now cool your jets, you’re making a fool of yourself.” I wondered if she realized how desperate she looked. Her breathing came hard and fast, while mine remained steady.

Her body deflated and thinking she was through, I released her, watching as she stumbled back, and the fight left her.
