At the question, Landon replied, “We make damn sure they learn the definition of consequences.”
“Do I want to know how exactly you do that?”
“Probably not.” Landon shrugged as he pushed back his chair and stood. Moving around his desk, he extended his hand to me. “Sometimes ignorance really is bliss. Ready to meet your team, Fiona?”
My team…
That sounded good… really good.
I took his hand and allowed him to pull me to my feet. I wasn’t sure if it was because my knees wobbled a bit when I stood, or whether it was just because he chose to, but when Landon didn’t release my hand, I didn’t complain.
Chapter Four
Landon
“Has the interval between slips of papers been the same?”
“So you found them in random places, none the same. Have any ever been delivered by mail?”
“Have you asked any of your neighbors if they’ve seen anyone suspicious about?”
“You say you work remotely from home and yet volunteer in clinics not only in your town but several in the city as well. We’re going to need all those locations and a list of everyone who works at each one.”
“Any ex-husbands or current boyfriends or partners who might have a reason to seek some type of revenge?”
While Audra shot a glance my way, Fiona studiously avoided looking in my direction.
“I don’t think so. I’m not currently dating anyone.”
“What about clubs?” I asked. The question succeeded on two fronts. It had her looking at me and reminded her I already knew she’d been a passionate person and couldn’t see that desire toexplore her sexuality being denied after we’d gone our separate ways.
“I only play at clubs with very strict security and who vet their members.”
“Good, then any of your play partners will understand the need to answer questions,” Audra said, reaching to place her hand over Fiona’s. “If any Dom or Domme thinks otherwise, then a submissive should stay the hell away from them.”
Fiona nodded and gave the name of the two clubs where she’d played. Both places were familiar to me. I not only knew their owners, Citadel had worked with both on different cases. I was glad she’d had the sense to choose them.
By the time Fiona had met Kurt, Zeke, and Matt, who were on site, and answered dozens of questions I’m sure she thought were being shot at her from all directions, she looked like she was pretty much done in.
“I think we have enough to work out a plan,” I announced, setting my pen down on the pad of paper in front of me. “We will meet again in the morning to finalize a schedule. Meanwhile, I’ll take the first shift.”
“Sounds good,” Kurt said, flipping his own file folder closed.
“Don’t you worry about a thing, Fiona, you’re in good hands,” Zeke assured her.
“I’m going to need a list of your clients as?—”
“If you think I’m giving you a list of my patients, you’re out of your mind!”
Her affronted tone let me know she wasn’t as done in as I’d thought.
“I’m not going to publicize them,” Matt said, his tone just as insulted as hers. “I just need to rule them out as?—”
“How about you let me do that for you. They aren’t suspects.”
“How can you be sure?”
I wasn’t surprised the question came from Audra. She was the peacekeeper among us, the one to pour oil onto troubled waters.
