Tilting her chin up, she cocked an eyebrow in a look that had been known to send weak men running for the hills. “And why would I do that?”
Obviously, her Silver Fox was no weak man. Chuckling softly, he captured her chin between his fingers, giving her no option but to look up at him. “Because you look like a rabbit who suddenly realized she’s invited a wolf to her front door.”
That was a fair assessment of how she was feeling, though she wasn’t about to tell him that. “Maybe I’m the wolf in this scenario.”
“Keep telling yourself that, little siren.”
Siren. One of those beautiful creatures of the deep, known for luring men to their deaths with the power of their song. Or something like that, anyway.
Did that mean he considered her dangerous?
She liked to think so.
“If you’re the wolf, does that mean you’re going to… eat me?” She dragged the question out, made it as deliberately provocative as possible.
“No.” Leaning in, Silver Fox dropped his voice, the deep growl sending a shiver up her spine. “It means I’m going todevouryou.”
Ho. Lee. Shit.
Where thehellwas that car?
Chapter Two
Frankie
A sleek black SUV pulled up to the curb before she had a chance to really gather her wits. Silver Fox released her chin, but only to put his hand at the small of her back again, and she nearly whimpered at his touch as he guided her into his vehicle.
His obviously very expensive vehicle, which was another point in his column. Frankie had zero shame about her appreciation of nice things, and the men who could continue to provide her with them. Even though she was headed to med school in the fall and she had every intention of being able to provide for herself, she was woman enough to admit she enjoyed letting men spoil her with expensive, sparkly things.
Relaxing into the buttery-soft leather with a sigh, she waited for him to join her. So far, Silver Fox had a lot going for him. Good looks, a voice that made her pussy clench, money, and manners to boot.
So what was the catch? There wasalwaysa catch.
Before she could wander down that mental rabbit hole, the driver’s side door opened and her Silver Fox climbed up into hisseat. He glanced over, his mouth turning down in a frown that had the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end.
“What? Why are you glaring at me like that?”
Instead of answering, he leaned over, reaching across her, his body so close she could feel the heat pumping off him. Could smell the rich notes of his cologne that made her want to lean forward a bit and run her tongue over that muscle in his neck before she sank her teeth into it.
“Seriously?” she said with a laugh when his hand brushed across her thigh. “This couldn’t wait until we get to your place?”
But he wasn’t, she realized with a flush of embarrassment, copping a feel. A moment later, he pulled back, and she felt the stretch of the seatbelt across her body before it clicked into place.
“Safety first, little siren.”
There was no censure in his voice. And still, she couldn’t help but feel like a naughty child who’d just been scolded by her Daddy. “I was getting there,” she grumbled.
“And now it’s done.”
She wanted to argue, but it seemed like such a petty thing. And it wasn’t like she would be arguing against wearing the damn thing. It just seemed important for him to know that she would have put it on herself.
Because she couldn’t quite figure out why it was important, she pushed the uncomfortable feeling aside. Giving her ponytail a flip, she flashed him a bright smile. “So, are we exchanging names or are we just sticking with Siren and Silver Fox?”
Silver Fox barely spared her a glance as he pulled the car away from the curb. The silence that followed stretched so long, for a moment she wondered if he hadn’t heard her.
“Holden,” he said at last, just when she was hyping herself up to ask him again.
“Frankie. Well, Francesca, but only my parents call me that. And only when I’m in trouble,” she added with a laugh.
