He stands up with me, reaching out, his fingers encircling my wrist and preventing me from stalking away.

“Wait a minute, Auryn.”

I freeze, I would have anyway. All it takes is a fingertip on my wrist and my willpower evaporates.

Why did I have to fall for them? How stupid can I get?

“What’s wrong?” I ask him gruffly.

“You’re going to try to help Tyr, aren’t you? He didn’t do anything wrong-”

I snatch my wrist out of his grip. “I’m going to do my job, Alpha Fate. The one I’m damned good at. I have already read the doctor’s testimony,” I lie. “And I’m not dumb enough to miss that the girl is clearly Sita. Tyr’s sister is unmistakable.”

Envy swallows hard. “I’m sorry, it’s just-”

“You love your pack. Yes. I know. But I love,” you, him, them, the pack, “my job. On that note, I need to prepare, so I’m going to head up to my room and get to work.”

Envy growls, but I ignore him.

It takes everything I have to keep moving. To slowly put one foot in front of the other.

In my memory, Envy laughs warm and wild and so very alive. He slaps a kiss to my temple that surprises me into stunned silence and then sings my song. We’re drunk, and I’ve never seen him like this, but he’s like starlight, and I can’t look away.

It’s the first time I’ve heard him sing, and if he looks like an angel, he sounds like temptation and pure sin itself. My skin breaks out in goosebumps as I watch him, but he doesn’t take his eyes from me. It’s like he’s singing to me.

That was when I knew how deeply I’d fallen. That was the beginning of my end.

Chapter ten

Mako

Maybe all there isis me, lost in you, forever- Mathew Mako Fate

We’ve barely seen her. In the three days in White Hall City, Ryn has managed to be anywhere but with us. The infuriating frustration of it is driving me insane. I want to hunt her down and make those eyes go wide and hear that stutter that I love so much.

I glance around the room and adjust the thick leather cuffs. My hair’s done, my makeup is done. I’m just not feeling it. This entire night is pissing me off. I tap my foot and watch people rush back and forth. Envy’s hair is done up in a messy bun. Tyr has black eyeliner around his eyes. My shirt is stylishly ripped, as is everyone else’s.

We’re ready to go on stage.

I fold my arms over my chest, lift my chin, and glare.

“Find Auryn Raines.”

“But-” The assistant tries to argue.

I raise my voice so everyone can hear me. “I’m not going out there until I’ve spoken to Auryn Raines.”

The room freezes, turning deadly and silent. I catch a dark look from Tyr and return it five fold. He wanted this. He started it.

The hair people, the makeup people, the guys dealing with our clothes, the people in charge of this venue, and the assistants scatter. Everybody races to find the missing beta because there is one thing they all know about me, I will burn everything to the ground if I promise I will.

Tony glares at me. “Was that necessary?”

“Yes,” I growl.

Tyr pushes up out of his chair and glowers in my direction. “What the fuck?”

I ignore him and start pacing.
