“I mean, if you and I are going to sing them, then shouldn’t they be written for two women?”
“Absolutely not.” Bunny shot up from the piano bench and shoved her hands in her pockets. They were in a small practice room, barely big enough for the upright piano and the two of them to have any space.
“It’d be weird for one of us to pretend to be a man, wouldn’t it?”
“We’re not pretending. We’re just singing.” Bunny crossed her arms and paced the small room.
“It’s not just singing.” Bea stood still in the middle of the room, standing her ground.
Bunny shot her a glare. Didn’t she understand what she was asking? Bunny wasn’t out. She wasn’t going to brand herself as the lesbian singer. She wasn’t going to feed into the rumors that she and Piper were a thing. And she damn well sure wasn’t going to do it with her one-night stand from the other night.
“This is only about singing.” Bunny froze in front of Bea. “It’s about doing this charity event and then going our separate ways.”
“Gee, tell me how you really feel.” Bea shook her head and snorted. “Not that I needed you to spell it out for me.”
“What are you even talking about?”
“Look. I get how much you find Jo and me annoying. I get that you have zero desire to even do this event with us. I don’t understand why you’re still here. But I’m not going to half-ass this concert just because you don’t want to put in your full effort.” Bea crossed her arms, pushing her breasts up in the super-low-cut shirt, which made the skin on her smooth breasts all that much more enticing.
Stepping closer, Bunny halted. She couldn’t think like this. She couldn’t breathe with Bea so close to her, with Bea so stunning and amazing. She didn’t want to do this event, but it wasn’t because she was singing with Bea and Jo. It was just Bea and her damn presence that kept distracting her.
“I’m not going to back down on this,” Bunny ground out. “I’m not going to out myself to the world because you have some whim about making this a queer song.”
“That’s not what I’m saying at all.”
“That’s exactly what you’re saying!” Bunny’s voice echoed in the room. She hated hearing how afraid she sounded. How scared she was to even just be standing there.
“No. It’s not!” Bea yelled back. “Would you just listen for once?”
“I’m listening.” Bunny’s voice was tight with anger. Because she was listening. Bea was the one who was ignoring everything Bunny said.
“Not with that tone, you’re not.” Bea raised an eyebrow at Bunny, staring her down like she was a bug to be squashed.
“I am.”
“You know what. Whatever. I’m about to give up. You can’t be moved, so why even bother. And what’s wrong with coming out, anyway? Don’t you think it’s a hell of a lot better to live authentically than to live in a constant state of fear?” Bea moved toward the door.
Bunny ran forward and slammed her hand against it, pushing it closed again. Her heart raced, her stomach twisted tightly. “I don’t live in fear.”
“Like hell you don’t.” Bea turned her back to the door and canted her head to the side. “Can’t you see what you’re doing?”
“I live my life exactly how I want to live it.” Anger burst in Bunny’s chest. She stepped close to Bea, pushing her against the door. “And I don’t intend to live it any other way.”
“Because you’re letting fear run you over like an eighteen-wheeler.”
“Fuck you, Bea.”
Bea laughed coldly. “You wish.”
Bunny’s jaw dropped.
Bea clasped onto Bunny’s cheeks and pulled her in hard. Their mouths slammed together in a fiery kiss. Bunny tried to pull away, but Bea held her tightly. She was so strong, and Bunny didn’t really want to leave. She wanted them to stay right where they were, mouths together, bodies together. Bunny’s knees weakened. She pushed harder into Bea to keep herself upright.
Bea slid her hand from Bunny’s cheek to her neck, parting her lips and sliding her tongue against Bunny’s. It was a plea to give in. It was Bea begging for Bunny to tell her that she was right.
But she was so wrong.
Bunny didn’t need the world to know who she was. No one needed to know except her. Moving in swiftly, Bunny tried to take control, but Bea flipped them, pushing Bunny’s back into the door. Bunny groaned, her hips jutting out until Bea pushed her thick thigh right between Bunny’s legs. Bunny groaned, her eyes fluttering shut as sensations took over her.
