‘Oh… hey,’ I reply, turning to face Fraser and immediately noting that while his eyes might be as spectacularly green as ever, the look in them is as wicked and mean-spirited as it ever was. ‘I… um… wasn’t expecting to see you here.’

‘And why would you?’ Fraser says. ‘Brains were never your strong suit. Six-pack, sure. IQ? Not so much.’

This is typical from Fraser. An insult followed by a compliment followed by an insult.

Immediately I feel just like I did the last time I saw Fraser.

Part of me just wants to walk out without saying another word to him. But Fraser used to be my Daddy, and clearly some of the dynamic of that relationship is still there.

‘You look cute though,’ Fraser says, undressing me with his eyes. ‘Real boy or not, no one could ever deny you’ve got one hell of an ass.’

I feel myself blushing, but I don’t like the intent in Fraser’s words.

It’s almost like he’s praising me while mocking me at the same time.

‘Anyway, I’m busy,’ Fraser laughs. ‘Got places to go, boys to see. You know how it goes, right? Catch you around sometime.’

With that, Fraser simply leaves, chuckling away to himself as he exits the coffee spot.

‘Everything okay?’ the barista says, leaning over the counter to check in on me. ‘Who the hell was that?’

‘No one,’ I reply, feeling downbeat. ‘Thanks for the drinks.’

I truly wasn’t expecting to see Fraser. I’d heard that he’d left town some time ago. But just as I feel like the rest of the day is going to go into a downward spiral, I hear my phone ping.

It’s a message from Reece…

REECE: Boy… so you’ve worked hard today. But how about you come over to my place and I’ll show you what an athlete’s workout looks like? I want to show you that even though you’re a big, strong builder it doesn’t mean that Daddy can’t lift some seriously heavy weight too.

Just like that, all thoughts of Fraser go out of my head and I’m walking back to the construction site with a tray full of drinks and a spring in my step.

‘An athlete’s workout,’ I giggle, my mind racing at the possibilities of a topless Reece in nothing but his soccer shorts. ‘I think Reece might be about to put me through my paces yet again…’

Chapter 8

Reece

Even though I’m now retired, I still love nothing more than putting my body through its paces.

Part of me thinks I would still be able to play soccer at some level professionally, but my old injuries and the wear and tear to my body probably tells me that this wouldn’t be a good idea.

Still, it’s a nice fantasy to have.

I know I still have all my old skill with the ball at my feet, and when it comes to power and pace I can still put many a younger athlete to shame.

My personal trainer and specialist sports masseur is Clay, and he’s just put me through an absolute beast-level workout.

Today we focused on heavy lifting, endurance, and just about the most savage circuit of core exercises to wrap things up.

Clay doesn’t take any prisoners, and he knows because of my history that I’m more than capable of being pushed right to the limits. Clay was a professional athlete too – and in many ways he was the Reece Bellham of the hockey world.

Clay had a long career as one of the smoothest, most skillful ice hockey players in the NHL. Clay had flair, precision, and a whole ton of heart too. The fans loved him because of it – the fact he’s a handsome sonofabitch probably helped too.

Clay’s trademark cropped blonde hair and blonde stubble looks as perfectly rough and ready as it ever did. With a killer body covered in tattoos and scars from his hockey days, I can truly appreciate how so many boys swoon over this man.

Like me, it was a combination of injury and advancing years that brought the final curtain down on Clay’s career. And after spending a couple of years on the party circuit, Clay has found a new passion in his life… training and massage therapy.

Clay has his training and massage therapy clientele, and runs a successful vitamin and supplement firm on the side. He really does have it all going on and it seems like he has found pretty much everything he’s looking for in retirement. Well…nearlyeverything.
