But Dana nodded, vehemently. “I mean, falling for your best friend is kind of a dream, no? Someone who loves you for you with no ulterior motives and accepts you as you are. Fuck I wish I had a friend like that.”
When she put it like that, it was hard to argue with. Of course, it was devoid of nuance; what if we were wrong and we couldn’t get over the romantic feelings to go back to friendship?
“Wanna make her jealous?” Dana scooted over, ready to lay on her own charm to help me out.
As much as I loved her eagerness to accept a challenge, I knew just how sensitive Sy was to jealousy. So instead I giggled and leaned into Dana’s ear. “If I know anything about Sy, this will be plenty to eat away at her. But thank you.”
Dana nodded and gestured toward her friends. “If you change your mind, me and my pals are hanging out over there and we’d all be happy to help. We love a challenge.”
Just one peek at the group leaned against the pool table told me everything I needed to know.
Sy’s song was coming to an end as our chat finished up. I could tell from her wrinkled brow that she was already on guard.
Maybe there would be more than one show tonight.

SY
I couldn’t hopoff the stage fast enough, needing to make sure the woman who’d sat next to Jenna was chill and not making anything weird.
Jen was a gorgeous woman, so it was pretty normal for someone to give it a shot but something about it made my heart race now. The person who’d taken my spot seemed completely harmless and yet my pulse was throbbing in my head.
Trying to play it cool, I walked over and smiled. “Hey.”
“You did great up there.” Jenna wiggled her eyebrows before introducing her new friend. “This is Dana, she was just keeping me company while you were gone.”
Maybe the lights were casting a strange hue on Jenna's face, but I could have sworn she was blushing as she introduced us.
Dana stood up and shook my hand. “Nice to meet you, Jenna told me all about you.”
“Oh, really?” I couldn’t stop myself from smirking, knowing that my friend loved to gossip.
Leaning closer, Dana nodded. “You should lock her down, she’s a real winner.”
I scoffed as Dana walked away. She was right, of course I knew she was right. But we were six weeks away from Jenna leaving New York and I wasn't sure I could handle that heartbreak.
Resting my arm on the small wood table lining the wall, I shrugged. “Your new friend is very presumptuous.”
Jenna pursed her lips as she narrowed her eyes at me. “Is that so?”
At that moment, I knew they’d conspired to make me a little jealous. But if that was true, Jen wasn’t trying to stay away from me. And if that was the case, maybe we did have a chance.
So I decided to push my luck.
“Yeah, she said I should lock you down and claim you.” I winked.
Breaking out into laughter, Jenna’s head rolled back and rested against the wall. My eyes darted to her exposed neck, wanting nothing more than to let my lips meet the skin and nipple on her.
“Well, maybe you should.” Jenna finally managed, her eyes meeting mine with a narrowed determined gaze.
Tilting my head, I pushed it further. “I could take you to the bathroom right now. I’d claim you there.”
Not missing a beat, Jenna nodded. “Then do it.”
Fuck, that’s hot.
I wasn’t about to let her get the upper hand, so I reached down and grabbed her hand. Leaving my beer on the ledge, I guided her through the crowd toward the bar bathroom which was conveniently just under the stage speaker.
