Page 43 of One More Weekend

When the door cracked open, Jenna stuck her head out like an ostrich.

Her eyes met mine, widening as she realized she’d been caught. Lowering her head, she covered her tired, beautiful face with her hands and let out a raspy laugh. “Morning.”

“Morning.” I smiled back at her. Any hopes I had of playing it cool were out the window, not when she looked like that. She’d thrown on a big t-shirt, one I couldn’t be sure wasn’t mine, and short pajama shorts that showed off her legs. Legs I’d spent all night kissing and caressing.

Turning around, I grabbed her coffee mug and poured her a cup, leaving her enough space for milk.

She grabbed the oat milk carton from the fridge and stirred the milk in. “So…” Jenna started as she stared into the light brown liquid.

“So.” I nodded.

“That was really fun.” Jenna licked her lips, a flirty smile still lingering on her mouth.

“It was.”

A silence came over us, neither of us knowing how to talk about it.

Taking the lead, I cleared my throat. “As much as I want to do it again, I don’t want to put you in a weird position before moving.”

Jen pursed her lips together as she took a sip of coffee, a slight pout on her face. “Right. It’d be too complicated. And I love our friendship.”

“Yeah. And who knows if we could handle being casual while living together, ya know?”

“Definitely. Plus, I hate long distance.”

Nodding, I looked away. “Same.”

We both sat down on the couch. Wincing as I sat, it felt impossible to just move past this.

But there it was, it was better if we didn’t try anything. We’d find out, we do have insane chemistry – the most I’d ever had with anyone inside and out of the bedroom.

And that was all it would be, just a one-time thing.

The last thing I wanted was to make Jenna feel obligated to stay just to see this through.

Taking a last swig of my coffee, I looked at her. “Cool, I’m glad we talked about it then. I don’t mean to run out, but I have a shift in a few so I should go get showered and head out.”

Jenna nodded and smiled.

I leaned over to her, hoping a hug could reset the vibe. But as we wrapped our arms around each other, and her smell wafted into my nose, I felt my whole body get excited again. I couldn’t stop myself from picturing her face as I slid inside her.

My heart was racing in my chest when I forced myself to pull away from her strong grip.

I’m completely fucked.

JENNA

A partof me was grateful to have the apartment to myself so much the following week. Sy had been taking extra shifts, saving as much money as she could to prepare for my departure in just about six weeks.

I’d spent the last week sorting through any of the stuff I wanted to get rid of and desperately applying to new job listings.

Refreshing my email as I organized my closet, I hoped to hear something back. I still wasn’t sold on leaving the city but I knew staying just to go into debt would make my life a lot harder down the road.

Besides, it might be nice to get some more time with my family back west.

I let out a sigh as no new emails came in. But my phone did buzz with a text:
