CHAPTER 10 – Chloe

“Zack!”

A blonde woman followed by a giant hulk of a man exited the spacecraft. She reminded me of a mythical creature; her hair was long and white blonde and her eyes were startlingly blue. The warrior was huge like Zack, maybe even bigger.

I thought the blonde woman was going to jump into Zack’s arms and somewhere deep inside of me I felt a stab of jealousy. I shoved it away, not having any idea where it could have come from. What did I care if one of his former lovers had returned?

That thought pissed me off and I started to glare at the newcomers.

The woman didn’t jump into his arms though; she ran right up to him and punched him in the stomach.

“How the fuck are you, Asshat?” Her eyes sparkled and when she turned to me I felt the energy bouncing off her. “Hey, Chloe! Good to see you again and awake this time.”

Immediately I knew who they were. This was the human that Zack had traded me for to Queen Neopia.

I nodded at her words but felt no need to respond.

Her giant bodyguard grunted at Zack, “How are things here?”

Zack went into a long boring explanation about troops training and then he and the other man started talking war strategies.

“My name is Sarah, and this is my husband, Axel. How do you like Zeron?”

My brow furrowed, “As compared to what?”

Sarah shrugged, “Earth life I guess. I was supposed to be murdered; what about you?”

It was strange discussing our almost deaths as if it wasn’t a big deal.

“Stage four Colon Cancer,” I said briefly.

Her face fell, “Shit Chloe, I am sorry; that is terrible.”

Again, I nodded.

“How did your family take it?”

Things inside of me began to churn, things that I thought I had long since buried. What was it with all the questions?

“No family,” I said shortly.

“Oh,” I could see by the questions in her eyes that she wanted to ask more but Zack seemed to overhear the conversation and cut in.

“What are you two doing back here?”

“We had orders from your father; the new ship is ready, they call her The Andromeda. What do you think?”

We all gazed back to the ship that they had arrived in. It was beautiful if one called ships beautiful. It seemed very massive to me, like a floating city. Although, according to Zack, they aren’t nearly as spacious inside as one would suppose.

“I don’t understand,” Zack said quietly. “Why come here?”

“You are to pilot the ship; didn’t your father tell you that?” Sarah tilted her head to the side, “That’s weird.”

Zack’s jaw tightened, and his lips went flat. I could not only see that he was upset but somehow, I could feel it. I rubbed my chest to try and make it go away.

“Are you alright?” Sarah asked me, watching the movement.

“Fine,” I dropped my hand. “What does this mean? Why is Zack upset?”
