She was taller than most women, but at least she wasn’t blue.
“Who is Zackary?” I was defensive. If Satan sent her I didn’t want anything to do with her.
“He is your imprinted pair,” she said carefully. “I have come to take you off this planet. It’s time for you to go home.”
I moved out from under the bed. “You can take me back to earth? I thought I was dead, this isn’t hell?”
Betty shook her head, the corners of her lips tilting up. “I am inclined to believe that it feels like hell, but dear, you are in space. Earth is a planet in a solar system near ours. You aren’t dead.”
She moved forward, and I took a defensive stance.
“I won’t hurt you. I came to save you, actually.”
“Are you drugging me?” Chloe asked warily. “Is that why everything is so fucking weird?”
Betty’s eyes widened at the curse word.
“What did they do to you?”
I recited what had happened from the moment I woke up. Betty was so kind and understanding that I found myself telling her about the cancer, my parents and waking up in hell.
She blew out a long breath.
“What are you thinking?” I asked.
“That my son is an idiot. He should never have left you here.”
That got my attention. “What do you mean left me here?”
Her lips pursed together. “My husband is The Head Commander of The Intergalactic Alliance. Queen Neopia contacted us and said that my son came with his ship and you were left as a gift. She was actually quite angry about it. She seemed to think that you were broken.”
“Broken?” I shrugged, “That’s probably accurate. I am sure they think I have been acting like a lunatic. I thought I had died or entered an alternate reality. Some of them wouldn’t speak to me, it was like I was invisible.”
A tall handsome man with silvery blonde hair came into the room; he smiled so lovingly at Betty that it made my heart hurt. I remember my mom and dad used to look at each other that way.
“Well, Chloe, everything has been arranged; you are coming home with us.”
“Where is home?” I asked hesitantly.
“Zeron,” Betty replied. “It’s a lovely place. I am told that it is very similar to your home planet. I am sure you have many questions. Let’s board our airship and see if I can answer them.”
She stretched out her hand and I looked at it for a long moment.
I didn’t take help from others.
I was used to being alone.
But that was the old me. Hadn’t I wished for another chance? Was this it?
I took her outstretched hand and saw relief flood her features.
“Thank you, Chloe, let’s go aboard The Grant and you can meet Rylee, our daughter.”
I let her lead me out of the little room with the strange bed. We passed several blue people who looked away the moment our eyes met. I continued to walk until we were in a large hangar and there in front of my eyes was a massive airship. It looked like something you would see in a sci-fi movie.
“Are you sure I’m not dead?”
Betty laughed, “No, you are very much alive. However, I wouldn’t want to be my son when I get a hold of him.”
