“Is there anyone I can call?”
“You are so young.”
“Dying...”
“Chloe...”
“Chloe?”
The funny thing was that even then, I didn’t care. I refused treatment and his best guess was shot out of the water when my body was ravaged by cancer. Three months from my diagnosis, I found myself being hauled back into the emergency room.
Only this time someone had stumbled over me in the park. I don’t know how long I had been there or even how I got there. I only remember the flashing lights of the ambulance and the screeching of tires.
“We’re losing her!”
It was a man’s voice, I recognized that much. But as I slowly faded away I finally felt my heart lurch.
If that was fucking irony for you. Now, in my final breaths, my heart finally decided to give a damn.
And then nothing.
I GASPED, MY EYES OPENINGand my heart racing in my chest. Was I dead? Had I gone to heaven?
I looked around the foreign room and felt a feeling of unease wash over me. The bed that I was lying in looked nothing like the hospital bed I was in before.
My clothing was strange, and my hair had grown really long. I attempted to sit up and alarms went off, scaring the living shit out of me. I screamed when the door opened, and a small woman entered. I blinked twice, was she really—blue?
“Human, you are awake.”
I had to give her points for observation.
“Is this heaven?”
Her eyes narrowed, and she looked at me like a bug under a microscope. I twitched uneasily under her gaze, but I held her stare. I had faced worse things than a blue woman in heaven.
And then it hit me.
I wasn’t in heaven. My parents were there. I had landed in hell.
What the actual fuck was I going to do?
