My mate.
He twirls me under the lights, his laughter low and rich as he pulls me back against him.
And as the music carries us across the dance floor, I realize?—
This is perfect.
This is ours.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Epilogue 2
MY GREATEST TREASURE
Khanner Rokoth
The wind rushes past us,the night air cool and crisp, carrying the scent of pine and distant embers.
Sunny clings to me, her arms wrapped around my neck, her heartbeat steady and sure against my chest.
I fly higher, faster, cutting through the clouds, taking her somewhere no one else has ever been.
She doesn’t ask where we’re going.
She trusts me.
That knowledge settles deep in my chest, a satisfaction more powerful than anything I have ever built, owned, or conquered.
She is mine.
And now, I am taking her home.
We land atop the highest peak in the range that borders Obsidian City, a secluded mountain that has long belonged only to me.
Sunny gasps as I lower her to the stone platform, her eyes wide as she takes in the hidden cavern before her.
It glows with soft, golden firelight, flickering off the walls of obsidian and quartz, illuminating the treasures I have collected over centuries.
Artifacts. Ancient tomes, priceless metals, enchanted relics.
And yet, none of them compare to her.
She turns to me, awe-struck.
“This is your hoard?” she breathes.
I step closer, tilting her chin up to meet my gaze.
“Yes. And now, so are you.”
Her breath catches, her fingers tightening around mine.
“I mean it,” I murmur, voice rough. “You are my greatest treasure.”
Her eyes soften, shining under the silver glow of the stars.
Then, with a signal, I summon our witnesses.
