Years? It made sense when he thought about it, with everything she’d gone through. That meant she hadn’t slept with Stephen, and all he could think about that was,Thank fuck.

He kissed the back of her hand. “We don’t have to do this tonight.”

Smiling, she walked backward until her legs hit the bed, pulling him with her. “I want to. Do you?”

He snorted at the ridiculous question. “Clearly.”

Her smile widened and his heart stopped beating. She released his hands and pulled her shirt over her head before scooting back to lie down. Immediately he put his hands on her, sliding his palms up her smooth stomach. He pressed a kiss to her belly button, eliciting a giggle from her.

“I love your laugh,” he said to her ribs. “Making you smile puts me on top of the world.”

“You must be there now,” she said, sounding a little breathless. “I can’t stop smiling.”

He grinned and delivered another kiss between her breasts. “Me either.”

She tugged at his shirt, and he yanked it off, watching her devour his body with her gaze.

“Your body is incredible,” she sighed. “I can’t stop looking at you.”

He slid one hand up her side while the other burrowed under her back to press her up and against him, bringing their hearts as close as they could get. “And I can’t stop touching you.”

Leaning up, she captured his lips, and they kissed long and slow and deep. She wrapped her legs around his waist, the fabric of her jeans brushing the bare skin of his back, and he arched into her. She moaned at the same time he let out a groan.

She hadn’t been with a man in years, and he could take that two ways. One, she probably wouldn’t notice if he was a fumbling idiot as he lost his mind over her. It took a little pressure off, but he also considered the second point, which was this: she’d gone a long time without, and she deserved the very best he could give her. She deserved fireworks.

Jamie smiled as he slid down her body.

He was up to the task.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Elliott

Elliott woke up with a dog at her feet and a large, naked man at her back.

Hank sensed she was awake and immediately thumped his tail on the mattress. Smiling, Elliott held her index finger up to her lips.

“Shh,” she whispered. “You’ll wake your dad.”

Jamie shifted behind her and tightened his grip around her waist. “Too late.”

Her stomach dipped at his low, sexy, sleep-tinged voice. One of his knees slid between hers and he brushed her hair back, nuzzling at her neck.

Her body came alive immediately, warming her from the inside out. She rolled over to face him, and they both stopped moving for a few seconds, heads on fluffy pillows, just looking at each other.

“Good morning,” she said, a huge smile spreading across her face.

“Good morning, beautiful.” His large hand came to rest on her cheek, and there wasn’t even a trace of awkwardness this morning after.

A tightness clenched inside her chest as her heart throbbed, permeated with emotion. Mostly extreme happiness, some disbelief she was actually here in his arms, and a small measure of apprehension.

It felt too good to be true.

He slid closer and kissed her softly. “I can’t believe I’m waking up next to you.”

She closed her eyes and ran her hand up and down the smooth, hard muscles of his back. “Me either.”

Their lips came together again, and her stomach filled with the fluttering of a thousand butterflies. She thought back to last night and how perfect it had been. Jamie was attentive and considerate, constantly asking what felt good and if she wanted something different.
