Chapter Thirty-nine

Miguel

“Wehaveafuckingrat at the police station who let those gringos go, a terrified five year old who can’t even tell us what happened, and a missing viejita.”

Hearing Loco explain the words as if I already wasn’t living in a goddamn fucking nightmare heightened my thirst for blood.

The moment I’d told him Lorena was missing, he’d called for a lockdown of club family. Viejas, children, and anyone close to us was locked away behind the doors of our clubhouse. Many of the Viejitas outright refused due to the bomb incident. Because the clubhouse hadn’t sustained damages itself, some of my hermanos had to physically throw their asses into rooms and lock them in there.

The only one missing was Xiomara and her family. Due to her injuries, she was still laying face down on her bed at home, unable to move. And, according to Ink, cursing those gringos up a storm.

I appreciated the fact that my brother Ink had left his Vieja’s side to come help find Lorena. It’s what Diablos did, and what family stood for.

We were there for each other, and they’d rallied behind me not only to take down those tricky motherfuckers, but more importantly to get my woman back.

“We have hermanos riding through the streets searching for any sign of them. Since she doesn’t have her phone, Chema is hacking into the traffic feed to catch a glimpse of her, and we got Ángel asking around the area where she was taken to see if anyone saw anything,” Cubano said.

“They won’t be hiding in the same fucking place,” Loco said. “They aren’t that fucking stupid. They slithered into some other hole on some other property.”

“Yeah but how the fuck are we supposed to find out where–”

We were interrupted by the doors to the room where we held Misa flying open. There was a rough, coarse scream. “Papá!” A body came flying at my legs, wrapping themselves around me.

“Shit! Fuck! I’m so sorry, guys! He’s fast. Zeke, get back here now!”

I looked up at the flustered prospect with a scowl. I’d asked him to watch over him and Camila and make sure they had everything they needed. He knew better than to let anyone interrupt us during Church meetings.

“Scream at him all you want, dickhead, he can’t fucking hear you without his–” I broke off, looking down at Zeke clinging desperately to my legs. I lifted his chin with my fingers, turning his head from side to side.

He wasn’t wearing his hearing aids.

“Quick! Go check his fucking backpack and Lorena’s purse to see if his aids are in there!”

The prospect jerked back and ran while I fumbled in my pockets for my phone. My fingers nearly trembled as I swiped through the fucking thing to get to the app.

“What’s going on Miguel?”

“Zeke’s hearing aids are connected and synced to an app on my phone. I can connect them to bluetooth in the car and it has a–” I broke off, clicking on the app and waited for it to load. When it did, it took a few moments to sync. For a second, nothing appeared as it usually did when the aids were off. I stared at the screen, for so long and so fucking hard that one of my hermanos cleared their throat.

“Migue?”

“They aren’t there!” The prospect burst back into the room, panting heavily. “The aids, they weren’t there! We tore the bags apart. Nothing.”

I stared at the app, unblinking.

“Come on, nena,” I pleaded. “Please, give me a fucking sign…”

Like magic, a red dot appeared on the map indicating Lorena’s location.

A smile broke out on my face.

“I found her.”

And now it was time to fucking get her back.
