I know she will remain safe, protected by Kieres, now that he’s aware she’s one of his descendants. Lilu pushes open the entrance to the tent, wind gusting around us and demanding our attention.
Lucifer breaks away from me and attempts to welcome his daughter with those same open arms, but she crosses hers over her chest and stares him down.
“What are you doing here, Daddy?”
He looks between us, then to Lilu.
“I could feel the shift of power in the air and was wondering what my darling daughter could be getting up to in this small realm of hers.”
Lilu walks over to the desk and sits down, propping her legs up in aI give no shitsvibe.
“You banished me here, Father. Why do you care what I do?”
Lucifer’s anger snaps out at her, his white and blue flame rippling towards her. But Chaos appears in front of Lilu in a heartbeat, and in the final moment, Lucifer stops the attack. Onyx, Ruhn, and Rogue follow in, creating a wall in front of their mate.
“Can we help you?” Ruhn asks, taking a step forward.
I can see Lilu smiling behind him as she leans even further back in her seat to check out all of her mates’ asses.
Not really the time, Little Sis.
“I want to know why I can still feel a bond nearby,” Lucifer says, his voice deep and commanding.
All four of Lilu’s mates turn to her as if to ask permission to answer, not willing to tell Lucifer what he wants to hear without her go ahead. That makes him angrier, but he stays where he is.
He might be able to hurt his daughter, but to harm another child of a Lord of Hell is a sin not even he is willing to pay the price for.
“I am handling it, Father. The girl has left. Thus, we have no issue. Fate will snap her thread, and the problem will cease to exist in a few days time.”
Lilu inspects her nails as if she’d rather be anywhere but here as her men gravitate to her side. Lucifer turns to meand I can tell this won’t be the end of it for him.
Looking back at his daughter, he smiles. “Well, let's make it easier to ensure that, shall we. Where are you in the human world?”
“The west side of North America,” Onyx answers.
“I am thinking it’s time for you to expand your travels to Europe for a while. It has been far too long since we have fed on their souls.”
My heart nearly falls out of my chest, knowing how far that will put me from Evolet, and how long it will take me to get back to her. It would be almost a full day of teleporting as far as my powers can take me. Even then, I might not have enough power to get back to her before the bond breaks.
Panic flares in my chest, and that voice in my head I’ve come to know as Evolet, cries out for me. I let myself reach out to her through the earth. Her pain registers first, then I’m gifted with the image of a man above her with a large scar across his neck as his foot slams into her stomach.
It all fades just as quickly as it came, and Lilu’s eyes connect with mine before she snaps her fingers, the whole realm of the Corrupt Carnival transporting to the other side of the world.
Chapter 11
My whole body aches to the point that nausea roils in my stomach. I wince as memories of Master finding me in the woods flood my brain. Everything hurts, so I roll to my back, only to find that I’m in the trunk of a car as it races down the road.
It’s dark, the air stale and musty, only the faint glow of a tail light illuminating the small space.
I try to reach out, knowing that if I can push out the light, maybe I could signal for help. But it likely wouldn’t be of any use. Master owns our town, and he has influence in the surrounding areas too.
Something in my mind calls to me, that soothing presence I lean into. It’s so familiar, and I let it distract me from the pain as a voice speaks to me.
At first I can’t hear what it’s saying, just a mumble of words. I incline my head forward as if I could strain my body to get closer to the sound.
‘You’re stronger than you think, Ev. Now you need to fight.’
I hum to myself, knowing those words are so familiar. The only one I’ve ever allowed to call me that is Eryx, but it can’t be him. That wouldn’t make sense.
