“No, it won’t work here, I’m smart enough to avoid talking about any ofthatin public.” She winks.

I’m about to give her more shit about this, because she’s been hiding her entire life from me and I’m nosy. I get distracted by someone else flagging me down for another drink and I turn to her with a pointed look. “We aren’t done.”

Her laughter follows me as I walk away.

As the night goes on, I get more comfortable like everything is completely back to normal. When I see the guys from Uncaged walk in, I scowl in their direction while pouring a beer for someone.

Alexander and Cal slide up to Danner almost immediately and she brushes them off, finishing her drink, pushing cash onto the bar-top before waving to me.

Caine, Drew, and Adam sit at their usual table on the other end of the room, and are all looking at me. I roll my eyes, trying not to pay too much attention to them. It’s hard to avoid thepull they have over me, but I know they aren’t here because they wanted to grab some drinks.

They want to keep an eye on me. It may be because they’re concerned about my safety. And yes, that could be considered sweet. But I’m fine and I want to move on and for them to believe I’m fine too without hovering over me all the time.

“Want me to help them?” David asks from my side when he notices my scowl at the three large men.

“No, I got it.” I shake my head because I know if he tries they’ll just send him back over here demanding for me anyway.

I walk up to the table, placing my hands on my hips and looking at each of them. Caine is reclined slightly, his legs spread while he looks at me like he wants to eat me. Drew’s smirking while his eyes gaze over my body. Adam is sitting casually, but slightly on guard like he always is. It’s a way that I know comes from trauma of never being able to relax.

“You guys realize I’m fine here, right?” I tell them.

“We just want to check in, and get some drinks.” Drew smiles.

I roll my eyes. “No you don’t.”

Adam’s eyes move over to the front door and I watch him steel his spine. It makes me instantly uneasy even without seeing who just walked in. But the voice is somewhat familiar when he speaks.

“You boys causing more trouble tonight?”

I turn to see that officer that seems to have an issue with everyone striding toward their table. Though, he has a healing black eye and a split lip that has me curious who caused it.

“Nope,” Adam answers easily.

“Can I get you anything, Officer?” I ask, trying to pull attention away from the guys.

“Can’t drink while on duty, miss.”

“Oh, well then you’ll need to leave. We don’t accept loiterers around here.”

He looks at the table we’re standing in front of. The empty table.

“You kicking these three out too, then?”

“I was in the middle of taking their order when you interrupted.”

He grunts, looking at them again, narrowing his eyes before turning to leave.

“I have a feeling there’s something I should know,” I tell the three of them after he’s gone.

Caine smirks. “Don’t worry about it too much, killer.”

I’m worried about the fact that everyone seems to be hiding something from me when they know everything about me there is to know. Including the darkest secret I now have to keep.

“Well, like I told him, we don’t accept loiterers. So either order or get out,” I demand, frustrated that everyone in my life seems to have some sort of secret. I’m going to need them all to start spilling because I’m not living in the dark any longer.
