Page 26 of Uncaged Obsessions

The rehearsal dinneris a lot like our first one. People I hardly know and don’t care about telling me how happy they are for me.Except this time it’s sprinkled in with questions about where I went, what happened, and other things I avoid answering.

Carson’s arm is wrapped around me, gripping my hip in a way that’s almost painful, and every time I try to push him away he just pulls me tighter. I want to rip his hand off, and break each finger one by one, but I can’t make a scene.

While we’re standing talking to some business associate of Carson’s that I don’t know, I get a flash in the corner of my eye, a familiar face catching my attention, but when I turn it’s gone. I’m not even drinking alcohol, but I could have sworn I just saw Drew.

“Isn’t that right, wifey?” Carson squeezes my hip again, and I hide my flinch.

“Right,” I agree blindly, and since he didn’t tighten his hold again, it was clearly the right thing to say.

I try to look around subtly, because there’s an edge of awareness that has me on high alert. I swore I saw Drew, and I can feel eyes on me, but not the eyes of strangers.

Just then, I catch the cold glare of a man I’ll never forget across the room. Caine’s stare is one that has death written all over it as he looks in my direction. But it’s Carson that he’s focused on. I want to scream and run toward him, but I have to stay rooted where I am with another man’s hands on me. They’re not the hands of Drew or Adam that I want on me as Caine watches.

A woman comes up to Caine, trying to get his attention. I almost react until I realize that she’s also a familiar face.Danner. I fight to keep my jaw from dropping right onto the floor at my surprise.

They’re here. Wait, why are they here?Howare they here?

I’m looking around to see if I can find Adam, too, because he has to be here. I know I saw Drew and it wasn’t a figment of my imagination. I want to jump for fucking joy right now, but Carson pulls me against his chest, and says something to his colleagues before leaning down to speak only to me. “Keep it up, and you’ll get your reward.”

I flinch. The only reward I’m going to get tonight is getting the fuck out of here.

CHAPTER 15

CAINE

There she is. I was about to drop everything and run over to her, rip that asshole's hands off her body and take her out of here. Danner could obviously tell I was thinking something like that and she stepped in front of me before I could make my move.

“Play it cool just a little longer,” she scolds.

“She’s right fucking there,” I practically growl.

“We’ll get her, but we can’t get kicked out of here before that happens.”

She shoves the tray I’m supposed to be holding into my chest. We’re disguised as caterers, which was what Danner’s big plan was, and the stupid outfit we have to wear is driving me insane. The black button up shirt is too tight on my arms, I had to roll the sleeves up to my elbows, and my biceps are straining the fabric. The vest remains unbuttoned because it didn’t fit over my chest.

I’m sure I stick out around here, but no one has said anything. They just handed me a tray and said to serve. Adamand Drew are also around here, looking equally out of place, but even if one of us gets kicked out we have the others. Danner’s the only one of us who blends in, but I still don’t like her telling me what to do.

Keeping my eye on Max across the room, I pretend to work, but really, I ignore anyone who tries to stop me to get anything off the tray I’m carrying.

There’s a moment where Max says something to the soon-to-be dead man, and he lets her go. Her eyes find mine briefly, and it’s the only signal I need. Dropping the tray onto the nearest table, I follow close behind her, not sure of where she’s going.

She goes through a door, and I’m not far behind, locking it behind me as soon as I’m in. I think it’s a bathroom, but I don’t even look around to confirm, because all I see is Max.

She’s looking directly at me, her red hair is curled and looks ready to be wound around my fist. Her hazel eyes are wild as her chest heaves with heavy breaths. Her voice is quiet as she sighs, “You’re here.”

Closing the distance between us, I grip her throat and push her against the wall, letting my mouth hover over hers. “I’m here.”

I crash our lips together roughly, tasting her for the first time in way too long. She opens for me immediately and I tighten my grip on her throat while my tongue plunges into her mouth. She moans and I’m tempted to lift this tight little dress she’s wearing and fuck her right here. That way the next time that fucking asshole puts his disgusting hands on her, my cum will be dripping from her pussy.

She breaks our kiss, and I move my hand to the back of her head, grabbing her hair and pulling her head back while I trail my mouth down her neck, biting hard enough to leave a mark.

“Wait, Caine, you’re here.” She pushes against my chest, and I growl, refusing to let up. “Look at me.”

This time I listen, pulling back and resting our foreheads together so I can see her. I’ve missed getting to look at her, watching her even when she doesn’t know it. The way she feels in my arms. I’m never letting her go again.

“We don’t have a ton of time, I have to get back. How are you all here?” She grips the vest tightly, keeping me anchored to her like I might float away.

“We’re here to bring you back home, and if that guy doesn’t stop touching you then we’re going to have a problem in front of all these people,” I say darkly.
