“I forgot to switch the light off.”
She frowns. “But then I won’t be able to see you.”
Exactly.
She sits up. “What’s the problem?”
I glance away. “My body is not a pretty sight.”
She snorts and I scowl.
“Sorry.” She holds up a hand. “But it’s comical how you think your body isn’t a pretty sight when it’s actually absolutely gorgeous.”
“You haven’t seen the scars.”
She lays her palm on my cheek. “Those scars are badges of honor. You got them defending our country. Making it a safe place for me to live. They’re nothing to be ashamed of.”
“I’m not a hero.”
“You are to me.”
I look into her eyes but I don’t note any deception or pity there. She’s serious. But she’ll change her mind when she sees the scars on my body. I don’t want to tarnish her image of me, but the image she has is wrong.
“Switch off the lights. I don’t want you to be uncomfortable.”
I don’t hesitate. I roll off the bed and walk to the door where the light switch is.
“But Caleb,” she calls and I pause, “you’re still a hero.”
I hit the lights before she notices my flinch. I’m not a fucking hero. I’m the furthest thing from it. I should keep my hands stained with the blood of my friend off of Maya but I won’t.
I dig a condom out of my bedside drawer before undressing and joining Maya back on the bed. There’s a little light from the moon outside but I can’t make out Maya’s facial expressions.
Damn. I want to watch her face as I sink into her. Maybe next time I’ll keep my clothes on.
I crawl back on the bed. I blanket Maya with my body. She grasps my shoulders and I grit my teeth. She can’t see me butif she explores my skin with her hands, she’ll discover how damaged I am.
“Hands on the headboard,” I order.
This time she hesitates to follow my order. But I can’t let her touch my body. She’ll feel the scars and have questions. The answers to which will prove I’m no hero. I want to be a hero in her eyes a bit longer.
When she removes her hands from my body, I reward her by notching my cock at her entrance. She wraps her legs around me and I sink into her. She’s tight but I don’t stop until my balls slap her ass.
Damn. She feels good. Better than anyone else I’ve ever had. Good thing I’ve stopped denying myself what I want because I am not letting her go.
She moans. “This is better than any sex in all the books I’ve read.”
“Hell, yeah, it is,” I grumble before retreating.
I’ll show her sex with me is better than a book. I’ll get her addicted to me the way I am to her.

“Why is it called a walk of shame? It should be a parade of happiness.” ~ Maya when she’s delirious after sex
Maya
Iwake surrounded by warmth and the earthy scent of Caleb. I snuggle into him and he tightens his arm around me.
