“Sorry, I guess he’s showing his fuzzy butt,” I tell her.Take that, asshole!
She giggles then says, “Yeah, mine is going crazy as well.”
Despite the fact I want to spend the rest of the day with her, I know our time today is limited. Still, I say, “I want to see you tonight if possible. After work.” Both the man and wolf are on the same page when it comes to this. There’s no way I’ll be able to stay away from her, especially knowing there’s a threat against her, if I don’t put eyes on her before night falls.
Instead of refusing me, she replies, “I’d like that, Fox.”
I grab my wallet, look at the check and toss down enough money to cover the bill with a hefty tip. “Let me walk you back to your shop, Vivi.”
“Okay.”
Hand in hand, something I’ve never consciously enjoyed, I walk her to the door then lean in and lightly brush my lips across hers. Again, her eyes flare with desire as I whisper, “I want to kiss you as your mate, Vivi, but now’s not the time. But later… yeah, later I will.”
She nods, her wide smile letting me know that we’re on the same page. “Okay. I’ll cook dinner for us if you’d like?”
“How about I bring dinner to you since you’ve been working all day?” I counter.
“That sounds perfect.”
I kiss her forehead then motion for her to unlock the shop door and go inside, making note of her hours. “Where do you live?” I ask.
“Above the shop. There’s a door in the alley behind the building.” Before I can ask about her safety, she quickly adds, “I have one of those camera doorbells installed, so when you push it, it starts recording as a notification pops up on my app. I’ll be able to let you know I’m on my way down.”
“Good,” I rumble out, already preparing to have her move to the clubhouse so I can surround her with my brothers for added protection. Not that I’ll need it because the first fucker who touches a hair on her head will pay with his life’s blood. I remember what Chaos did to the fucker who took Tressa and know my punishment against any transgressor will be much, much worse.
“See you later, Fox,” she says.
“Later, sweetheart.”
I watch as she goes inside before I head to my bike. It’s time to take this shit back to the girls so I can get back to work.
As I ride away, my wolf says one thing.
Tonight.
Chapter Three
Vivienne
“A mate, Angie!” I gush to my best friend over the phone.
“Oh, my goddess,” she shrieks, causing me to pull the phone away from my battered eardrum. “Maybe I need to relocate too,” she muses.
“I wish you would, I miss you,” I reply. “Do you think it’s possible?”
“I can always sneak out like you did. I haven’t told anyone I know where you are,” she whispers. “But Vivi? They’re still looking. Carter is on a rampage and has vowed to make you pay for embarrassing him.”
I roll my eyes even though she can’t see me. “Ofcourse,he is! Stupid male,” I hiss out, my anger flaring. “He’s an egotistical, misogynistic piece of crap. There’s no way I’d ever settle for someone like him.”
“Tell me how you really feel,” she teases before she grows serious once again. “I’m worried that he’s going to find you. So far, the alpha has kept him to our pack lands, but you know that’s not a lasting thing where he’s concerned.”
Sighing, I say, “I know. I did tell Fox about him, and he wants all his information. Says he’s going to put his brother on it so they can make sure Carter stays right where he is. But, Ang, I got the feeling that if Carter showed up here in Zephyr Hills, he wouldn’t be leaving, if you catch my drift.”
One of the things that binds us together as best friends is our love of the written word. The other? True crime shows and podcasts. She lovesHomicide Detectivewhile I enjoyEvil Lives HereandDeadly Women. Both of us tolerateSnapped.
“So, you could end up having your own Investigation Discovery show, huh?” she asks, sighing so loudly I burst into laughter.
“I suspect if Fox and his brothers took care of things, there wouldn’t be anything to find,” I admit.
